Or a Hush Ivy in navy??

I’m a bit budget constrained so can’t legitimise both at the mo!

I love a smock dress, they really work on my figure and lifestyle, but which should I go for?

Obv the Ivy is a bit cheaper but the Brora is a fab reduction.

I love a bit of plaid for autumn too. But am I wrong and is it fugly?!?

Would wear either of them with bare legs and trainers if we get a nice Sept; black tights and ankle boots when chillier.

I’m 43, size 10, freelance but like to look like I’ve not totally been dragged through a hedge backwards just because I’m home/hanging out with my school-aged DD most of the time!

Please choose for me!!

Oh, the Brora one says hand wash only which would put me off a LOT but honestly I’d wash in the machine, delicate cycle like I do with most of my stuff. It’s linen/viscose mix: should I DEFINITELY only hand wash??! If so I wouldn’t buy it.

My first thought was nightie as well.

The Hush dress is lovely though.

I may try it on when I arrives and post a pic on here so you can all judge: Nightie or Not? Grin

Sorry my first thought was nightie too!

I also thought it looked like pyjamas... or a shirt. I'd feel like there should be something on the bottom half. Possibly it's less like that when on. Photos please!

LOVE the Hush one, looks a lot more versatile to me.

I love love love a plaid smock but I was surprised when I saw the price actually OP as on first glance I felt it looked a bit thin and cheap. I think they've cut it too much like a nightie, it's the back and the shape of the hem IMO. It still has scope to look nice on of course but they'll surely the tartan smocks will be arriving everywhere in a minute anyway, for autumn! (Can't wait Grin)

The hush one looks more versatile good for layering and comfy, if it's a shape that suits you but if it doesn't excite you why spend so much on it. I would probably wear both if I had them, but wouldn't buy either.

With bare legs it is very nightshirtish. But dressed up in a winter look would be lovely.

hollieberrie · 18/08/2019 10:31

Oh god they are both awesome. GET BOTH OP!!!

Floisme · 18/08/2019 10:34

I'd get the Brora. I think Hush are very good at styling and photography and that is all I am going to say about them.

Chrispackhamspoodle · 18/08/2019 10:59

Hush for me. It's versatile. Can add a necklace to make it look lovely or layer a stripy long sleeve top under it and roll up the arms. Add patterned tights and ankle boots in winter or a scarf. The plaid one looks like a nightie, won't go with other accessories and reminds me of Fatface.

Bookworm4 · 18/08/2019 11:01

Hush dress, the tartan one looks like a nightshirt.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 18/08/2019 11:24

Brora! It’ll be better quality and it’s much nicer anyway.

Chrispackhamspoodle · 18/08/2019 12:44

OR...and this is totally unhelpful...if you don't like the one you have ordered save your money and wait. Go to Cos/ Other Stories and also Hush/ Brora in John Lewis and try some things on and buy something you really love. I know this is nigh on impossible with kids but after so many online bad buys it's what I try to do now. Put it in the calendar for 6 weeks time when all the sale/ summer stock has gone. With dresses in the shape you buy (I suit them too) it's easy to get the wrong size online.

The Brora one looks a bit like a nightie to me. But it might look fab on you though.

VirginiaWolfHall · 18/08/2019 23:07

My first thought was that the Brora looks like a brushed cotton nightshirt. The Hush one is really nice - elegant, understated and would great with either black or navy tights.
