Tights for winter - not just black!

NotJustACigar · 15/08/2019 19:47

Last winter I got into such a rut wearing thick black tights everyday - I know it didn't look great and want to avoid the same fate this year. But black tights are so easy! Please can I ask you what tights you'll be wearing this year?

I have this dress in conker and might get the khaki as well. The fabric is heavy enough to wear in winter but please can I ask you for tights advice for these two colours in this dress? Thank you, I am hopeless figuring these things out! www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/tara-jersey-shirt-dress/sty-j0337

I like a nice slate/ dark grey. Goes with everything black does but it’s a bit less harsh.

These are good

CremeEggThief · 15/08/2019 19:50

Grey, navy or even burgundy.

NotJustACigar · 15/08/2019 19:55

Those are WAY outside my comfort zone, nitgel - probably for someone much cooler than I am Blush. I'm loving the grey snagtights ones, the diversity of shapes and sizes of models on that site is so inspiring!

Charcoal grey, chocolate brown, or go off the wall and try mustard yellow. I like a coloured tight - try Snag or Tights Tights Tights, both online.

@nitgel - love those and have just bought them!! Grin

wellhonestly · 16/08/2019 13:02

I wear brown tights a lot in winter. Merino ones are lush.

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 16/08/2019 13:35

@nitgel I really want those too, but would have to think very carefully about what I wore them with! I already have to rein in my tendencies to throw on too many bright colours and patterns. I do have a burgundy jumper dress that they might work with though...

BigFatBloomers · 16/08/2019 13:49

M&S Opaques come in a good range of colours. I've got my eye on the claret ones as a change for the more plummy toned ones I often wear.

greenlynx · 16/08/2019 13:49

For me it depends on what’s colour your shoes/boots.

agapanthus1979 · 16/08/2019 14:00

@nitgel you are naughty. I've just bought three more pairs of tights from that site - including bright pink paisley ones ShockGrin

nitgel · 16/08/2019 22:09

Theyre groovy baby Grin

sheshootssheimplores · 16/08/2019 22:12

I’ve hust bought some different colours from Snag tights. They’re lovely.

NotJustACigar · 17/08/2019 05:33

I'd love to see photos of people's outfits with cool groovy patterned tights of anyone can be bothered to post any? I've ordered some different coloured tights from snag tights too and am considering braving Primark on a Saturday to get some there, too. Thanks for the advice and suggestions.

What's the site nitgel recommended? For some reason the link isn't clicky for me and I have major FOMO!

agapanthus1979 · 17/08/2019 07:45

@AllStar14 Modshoes. It's fabulous 😆

origamiunicorn · 17/08/2019 07:47

Navy, burgundy, grey... Took me a while to get into them but pair them with dark neutrals, my friend wears mustard too but they don't suit my legs for some reason 😁

RiddleyW · 17/08/2019 08:06

I quite fancy the mustard snag tights but I reckon my giant legs need a dark colour really. I wear bottle green quite a lot

origamiunicorn · 17/08/2019 08:36

Oooh bottle green goes off to look for some 😁

RiddleyW · 17/08/2019 08:44

There are the ones I like -

origamiunicorn · 17/08/2019 08:49

Thanks, I have actually never tried Snag tights before, looks perfect for someone who always ends up with the crotch falling down 😆

sheshootssheimplores · 17/08/2019 09:31

I found a code and got free shipping. So paid approx £5 for each pair.

StCharlotte · 17/08/2019 10:16

nitgel OMG! I had a pair exactly like this as a child, yes in the 70s, brought over from the US by my American aunt. I wasn't convinced at seven but I might be convinced at 55! Will definitely be ordering from that site.

I love a burgundy tight. They go with surprisingly lots and look a bit cooler than plain black (which I also love). Bottle green is good too though for some can have school uniform connotations.

Primark tights are brilliant - loads of sizes, loads of deniers (the 80 and 100 are v good) and the climate adjusting ones (I think that's what they're called) are great in summer and winter. They wick moisture away so are good for chub rub too (not saying that's a concern for you OP but it is for me!). They wash really well, too. I've got pairs I've had for years.
