Complete newbie here. But I was wondering whether there is a recommended manicure/ pedicure set. What tools are essential? Is buffing necessary?
I would like to do my own nails. I’ve had a quick look on Pinterest but I go around in circles and would prefer mumsnet advice. tIa

I wouldn't buy a set. Get a makeup bag and put in:

Nail varnish remover and pads
Nail file (I like glass ones)
3 or 4 in 1 nail buffer (numbered to take you from file to smooth to buff)
Some kind of cuticle remover or pusher (I don't bother)
Dividers for toes
Base coat
Nail varnish
Top coat (I use a gel top coat on normal nail varnish)
Optional: Hand cream, cuticle oil

I wouldn't bother with a Sensationail get kit of anything like that.

Practise makes perfect and saves you a tonne on nail bars.

I keep all my nail stuff (and skin care) in a small bucket (Tiger) and do it in front of the telly.

I’d say nail oil is essential, no buffing on finger nails and a 240 grit file or higher.

Checking out the links, thank you!

Mavala do a set which includes nail hardener, cuticle remover, base, top coat and oil sealer.
