Im looking for a warm-ish black coat to wear with chunky scarves in Autumn when it’s not cold enough to wear my quilted Barbour.

I like the look of this from Boden: www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/claudia-coatigan-black-charcoal-melange/sty-k0255-blk

Open to other suggestions too. It needs to be black & not belted.

Thanks sheshoots but the camel colour makes me look like death warmed up. I’ve just ordered this one.

LemonAddict · 14/08/2019 21:25

I may have also ordered the cheap but very nice coatigan from Next - thanks to whoever linked that earlier! One of them is going to be returned, I’ll see what they’re both like when they get here.

sheshootssheimplores · 14/08/2019 21:27

Ah that’s great you’ve found one 👌

Beautifullymixed · 14/08/2019 21:55

It was me Lemon that linked the Next one. Glad you like it. I think it's very stylish, and will look nice with converse as well as dressed up.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't sell out before payday next week, because I've a feeling that it will at that price.
I also like the colour, because it doesn't show cat hairs. Win win on all counts.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 14/08/2019 22:37

I bought one from Boden about 4 or 5 years ago. It's terrific and I would recommend.

Iamthewombat · 14/08/2019 22:51

Don’t really like the Next one. It looks a bit dressing gown-ish.

A coatigan is very good for indoors (at work) with skinny trousers on chilly days and goes under an outdoor coat if it is the same length or longer. As well as being a good ‘trans-seasonal’ coat if it isn’t raining.I have had 3 years out of a Sainsburys Tu coatigan, but it is looking a bit tired now. I will get the Boden one I think.

dontgobaconmyheart · 15/08/2019 10:12

Not a fan OP, sorry. I just don't think they serve much purpose as they aren't warm enough for winter so will only get used for a month or so, don't really go with an awful lot or look very of the moment, shape wise.

The Boden one is better than the Next offering but the A/W stuff is hitting the shops already anyway so I'd just wait and look for something rather than overpay. Personally would just steer clear and buy a lighter coat, or a thicker cardigan though. Structure and cardigans never seem to be the best look when blended.

weliveinapigsty · 15/08/2019 13:43

I have a blue one I bought from Boden a few years ago and I've never worn it because only cami vests underneath work and they look daft with a warmer type thing on top. If you try to wear anything with sleeves, it gets sticky if that makes sense - the sleeves get stuck on the inside sleeves of the coatigan and I hate that. Complete waste of money for me, but I like them in theory.

SegregateMumBev · 15/08/2019 13:48

The Boden one is dry clean only, which I always find a pain.

CoughSplutter · 15/08/2019 14:00

@weliveinapigsty Can’t you hold onto the t-shirt sleeve while you put your arm into the coatigan sleeve?

TheDogsMother · 15/08/2019 14:33

Mines on its way ! It's a bit expensive but I think it will get loads of wear. I like how they smarten up a pair of jeans

CaramelWayfarer · 15/08/2019 15:55

If you want a coatigan I would also look at Phase8.
I don't know what it is about Phase8 that I hate, but I do. I do however look at their coatigans and bought 2. Quite a few people have asked me if I got them in All Saints so obviously they look good.

CaramelWayfarer · 15/08/2019 15:58

I think they are warm enough, in fact I wear these more than coats. The last few winters have been really mild. Or perhaps it is because I am northern and we think coats are for wimps.

happytobemrsg · 16/08/2019 11:56

Please let me know what you think of it @TheDogsMother

I’m not specifically looking for a coatigan. It’s just the only thing I’ve found which I like.

OP posts:
TheDogsMother · 16/08/2019 17:24

@happytobemrsg It's nice, quite weighty and well made though I'm slightly in two minds. I like to wear coatigans open. This one has fabric covered poppers on the inside which is very neat when done up but when it's open they look a bit odd. Can you make it out on the photo

happytobemrsg · 16/08/2019 18:25

Hmmm I see what you mean @TheDogsMother. Can the buttons be removed completely if you never intend to do it up?

OP posts:
happytobemrsg · 16/08/2019 18:26

I’ve finally found a coat I really like. Want DH’s opinion though. Will report back!

OP posts:
TheDogsMother · 16/08/2019 19:03

@happytobemrsg I was thinking about that. Done up looked a bit shapeless on me which is another reason for wanting to wear it open. I usually find coatigans a great way to make jeans look a bit smarter but I think this one may be a bit chunky for that. IIts a bit more coat than coatigans possibly. I will try it again but for £130 it really needs to be right

Anyone else bought it ? What do you think ?

LemonAddict · 16/08/2019 19:17

I’ve received both the Hobbs one I linked to earlier and the Next one and both are being returned.

The Hobbs one is too long and boxy on me - I’m 5ft 2, and it makes me look too dumpy, the Next one is just not me.

TheDogsMother · 16/08/2019 19:30

I'm 5ft 3 and I think that might be part of the problem. Right garment, wrong body Grin

faustina · 16/08/2019 20:51

Uniqlo always do great coatigans and they almost always have a black one - also 100% wool. If they don't have any yet, I'm sure they will soon

Milliy · 17/08/2019 01:00

Don't like the colour blocking, especially the camel red one.

ByeByeMissAmericanPie · 17/08/2019 07:52

The camel and red Boden one is most odd.
I’d bet that’ll be in the sale!

Woolovers have a couple of coatigans in their new winter line up.
