Red or grey converse high tops

Had my eye on a pair of converse high tops for ages now and had it in my head that I wanted the grey. But the shop didn’t have grey and I had my head turned by the red and ended up buying them! Not sure if to keep or return - what do you think?
For context, I usually live in red saltwater sandals in the summer which I usually pair with a small red crossbody bag so I am used to a bit of colour on my feet but obviously there is more fabric on a high top trainer than a sandal!

My first ever converse were the red high tops when I was 17, I wore them to within an inch of their life and loved them! I don't think I could wear them now at 31, I'd much prefer the grey as they go with far more. At the minute I have white low cut ones.

I'd choose red as I think grey is boring

Grey

Gentlemanwiththistledownhair · 10/08/2019 00:14

Red!

I'd have the same dilemma: grey does technically go with more, but I'd end up rarely wearing them because they're a bit of a non-event. This happens to me whenever I choose the "sensible" option rather than the one that actually caught my eye. Whereas, if you were drawn to the red then you'll wear them far more because you'll find stuff to wear with them iyswim

I have red ones. Wish I'd gone for normal ones instead of hitops because movement always feels restricted to me in them though. But the colour is nice. Cheers me up to wear them :)

Those grey ones look cute though

Thanks for the comments! I went to the shops today and the grey is actually a little khaki-in real life (and they didn’t have my size!) so I’m going to see how I get on with the red. I’ve only worn them around the house so far and I must admit my first thought is clown shoes when I look down!

The red look better in the pic but weirdly I am tempted to shop for high tops (and have never wanted them before)

But I’m probably too old for them

Red can somehow function almost as a neutral and look good with quite a lot of other colours whereas grey shoes are nearly always meh and don't actually go with much at all.

Commonest trouser colours I'd guess are black, blues (navy and all shades of denim) and maybe khaki - red looks better with all of those than grey.

@ReeReeR - I’m 41 so am definitely no spring chicken (except in my head!)
@ErrolTheDragon - yes totally agree about red can sometimes be a neutral. I’ll generally be wearing them with quite basic colours like grey skinny jeans or black leggings with a long top etc so the red high tops plus red crossbody bag should give a nice pop of colour. I also have a navy trench coat for when the weather changes so I think that will pair quite nicely!

If you are wearing them grey, black, blue etc then I think they will look nice OP

Get both you know you want to

I'd go for grey , my first pair were grey and I miss them now .

DD has had red/burgandy/pink/white/white with a thin red and blu stripe/black+white

All worked with loads of colours.

I wear black+white or all black but I really want a new pair .

Bear in mind , they offer bu**er all arch support .
