Moschino belt ... tacky?

Shoeshelpplease · 09/08/2019 09:08

I think I k ow the answer to this but I love this belt. I used to have one when I was in my twenties and it was lovely worn with black jeans and a plain top.

In my fourties I know it is going to look tacky. Can anyone recommend a timeless, classy belt or buckle that is similar to this bit not as in your face? Something classic as it's for a special birthday ....

Probably not helpful, but I like it!

MustardScreams · 09/08/2019 12:02

If I was going to spend £200 on a belt I’d go Gucci or Hermes not Moschino. It definitely is tacky!

ALittleBitAlexis · 09/08/2019 12:14

I'm probably not the best person to answer this because I don't like logos, but I'd say something like these are more classic if that's what you want (I'm surprised how much I like the YSL ones!)

I'm another who doesn't like obvious labels and logos, to be they scream tacky. Sorry, but at that price point you should buy one that you can wear for the next 20 years.

EatenByDinosaurs · 09/08/2019 12:53

I also don't like logos, I tend to get all my belts and handbags from Etsy from sellers who handcraft them from scratch in leather or suede.
The quality is amazing, and they can be made to your exact requirements. Plus, well taken care of they can last for decades.

Lucked · 09/08/2019 13:29

I also don’t wear logos but don’t think they always look tacky.

No to moschino, I am sure a 20year old could rock it but move on.

I really like the ysl aboveboard might wear it myself if I had to pick one but the Gucci’s a classic (much copied) and I see lots of 40 + year olds wearing them.

64sNewName · 09/08/2019 13:38

Sorry OP, I think it’s grim.

I really struggle not to see big pricey logos on adults as telegraphing insecurity/immaturity. I honestly try not to judge harshly by appearances, but that’s the impression they give me before I can consciously correct for it.

TinselAndKnickers · 09/08/2019 13:58

I love it Grin

LifeofClimb · 09/08/2019 15:02

I love it, haha, although I sold mine. Only because it's not totally my style anymore, not because I don't think it looks nice.

If you like it, buy it! You can always check ebay first. I sold mine for around £60 - a LOT less than that website!

Crankybitch · 09/08/2019 15:06

I used to want one of those belts in the 8os

Think one of the others are better now though

Off to look for belts as I really want a nice one too

chatwoo · 10/08/2019 08:24

Don't like it.

The Gucci 'double G' reversible belts are nice but many $$$$

WanderingTrolley1 · 10/08/2019 08:26

Yes. Tacky.

dudsville · 10/08/2019 08:28

Not my thing re logo and its screaming 90's/00's appeal. But I'm on the look out for a midi length long sleeved knit dress. That's probably not your thing OP, have fun!

basicwitches · 10/08/2019 08:36

I love it!

HundredMilesAnHour · 10/08/2019 09:03

I used to have a couple of Moschino logo belts back in the 80/90s and loved them. But I wouldn't wear them now. Like so many others on this thread, I don't wear things with logos these days. I spend a lot on well made clothes and accessories but avoid things with logos.

If you insist on a logo belt, it really has to be Hermes. Some age 50 friends wear LV belts but I find them a bit tacky but I've never liked LV for that reason. Logos everywhere argh! But my friends do like a logo. Blush

But if you're looking for a quality belt in the £200 range rather than a logo, have a look at Dorothee Schumacher or Isobel Marant. Or even Paul Smith for something a little cheaper.

MrDarcysMa · 10/08/2019 17:01

awful...

kidsdoingmyheadin · 10/08/2019 21:35

I like it for the 90s vibes but agree that it could look tacky depending upon the styling. Imo it’s cooler than Gucci or Hermes logo ones, they are too ubiquitous.

Overthinker33 · 10/08/2019 21:56

Tactastic

Pinkyyy · 10/08/2019 23:16

They were in fashion a couple of years ago but not so much now.

Have to laugh at someone suggesting you can get an Hermes belt for £200.

Sarcelle · 10/08/2019 23:20

If I see somebody wearing a logo belt I assume they got it from a market or those copycat sellers in Turkey. They look tacky, desperate and cheap even if you have spent loads of money on them.

AngeloMysterioso · 11/08/2019 00:14

Why would you pay £200 to be a walking advert?

Shoeshelpplease · 11/08/2019 05:59

Thanks for all the replies and the reality check.

Yes I often see that with bags and always assume a fake from a market somewhere and think, 'just why'. It looks awful.

Especially when you see a really scruffy person, no attention to anything else they are wearing. Then a bag with massive logo on it.

Will have a look at the other options recommended to thread.

What was I thinking, even thinking it!
