Need something for an event at a museum/gallery at end September

Hello, need some help cos I can’t really get my head round this.

Going to an event organised by DH’s work at the end of September. It’s at a gallery/museum. The format will be drinks/canapés and private viewing followed by sit down dinner.

I’d like to wear flat shoes so I can actually walk round a lot. I’m 5’4”, bit top heavy-so size 14 top, but size 10/12 lower body. Legs are pretty good, don’t like my arms. I’ m brunette, suit dusky pink, chocolate brown, jade green, golden beige and bright white.

DH’s work are reasonably formal/traditional but it will be quite an avant garde setting. So I thought something a bit architectural would be a good way of blending that. Tried this with flat sandals. It was along the right lines but it swamped me when I tried it on.

Help!

I say this a lot but a jumpsuit might fit the bill, it would more or less cover or draw attention away from shoes so flats would be fine. PLT have the kind of thing I’m thinking if you google emerald jumpsuit, I’d link but the WiFi is going in and out 🙄

How about this or this

ZazieTheCat · 07/08/2019 14:23

Thank you both.

Luxury I’d be open to a jumpsuit, I wore a black velvet to his last work do.

Think it’s going to be mostly people in full length evening wear, so I think cocktail dress at a pinch. Those two dresses are lovely imsorry, very similar to things women at his company wear for workwear though as they are quite formal.

Budget is ideally up to £150, though I could stretch to £250 if I had to.

Ah OK I was trying to match the feel to the cos example you gave which is a long way from an evening dress.
How about:
Reiss
Or Chesca
Or Gina

ZazieTheCat · 07/08/2019 17:01

Thanks. The Cos one has a sort of pearlescent sheen to it when you see it in real life, makes it look more evening. I was going to wear it with an obi belt and some flat beaded sandals to accentuate that.

The building the event is at is kind of sculptural, so the Chesca and Gina one’s have that kind of quality, especially the Gina one, but navy really doesn’t suit me. The Reiss one is a lovely colour. I think I’m sort of looking for the Gina one in shape but the Reiss one in colour.

I’ve just put pink dress into John Lewis and there’s a couple you may like including a Gina, some are in pink with a green option. I like this Coast one too www.johnlewis.com/coast-knot-front-dress-blush/p4251092

This doesn’t look great on the model, better in the emerald colour www.johnlewis.com/winser-london-grace-miracle-dress/p4269034

I have this which I wore recently to a museum benefit kind of thing (trying to be vague so as not to out myself!) and I've never received so many compliments in one evening.

I wore it with flats and with some Georg Jensen style jewellery, not styled in the boho way they have done in the picture. It also looks a million times nicer on than in the picture, the fabric is so thick and soft, and hangs beautifully.
Its not see through at all, though I did wear red underwear just in case! Grin

Its $239 (so in budget I think, exchange rate depending) and it feels so much more expensive than that, its beautifully made. They deliver rapidly worldwide, not sure if its any use but Facil Blanco make some truly gorgeous white clothes, so worth a browse of the website if you have time Smile

Guess the link would help!

That’s exactly the kind of thing I was looking for Eaten. I’m loving white linen and feminine volume just now. The shape and pleats will be a nod to the venue. Thank you.

As luck would have it, DH is going to Dubai for a conference soon, so he might be to pick it up. You are right, they have some lovely things.

Thank you for sticking with it Luxury.

Happy to help Zazie Smile I have to say I think white looks a lot sharper and edgier at certain events than a little black dress or similar. There's something just so bold and striking about it.
