Alternative to Ghd glide

kmini · 07/08/2019 09:08

Would like to try a hot air brush as I have totally fallen out of love with my ghd straighteners.

Tempted to take the plunge with the ghd glide - just because it's a trusted brand name - but dont like that it has a single temp, want to experiment with using lower temps.

Hair is fine and a reasonable amount.

Any rec appreciated before I waste yet more money? Silvercrest from LIDL, JML from B&M. Any others?

Nadine Bagott (on YouTube) did a side by side review of the ghd glide with I think a BaByliss one. She said they did the same, though to my eyes the ghd glide did a nicer job probably worth a watch. If there's a Jose Eber stand in a department store near you they have them as well so you can get a demo and see if it's worthwhile.

Oh thank you. I'll add babyliss to my endless review googling!

Following with interest as I’d love a glide but just can’t afford one! There’s one on amazon that has good reviews, I’ll see if I can link to it.

kmini · 07/08/2019 18:47

Wow it gets such good reviews. Very tempted and not a bad price point. I'm so fed up with my hair that I will literally try anything!

If you do let me know what you think! I might order it after payday.

kmini · 07/08/2019 18:58

Hoping a plethora of other people come on with lots of views so I can stop making knee jerk purchase decision!

OP you said you wanted a hot air brush but neither of those are, unless I'm mistaken? They're sort of straighteners crossed with hairbrushes aren't they? You have to dry your hair before using them.

I want a hot air brush as I find blow drying my thick frizzy hair very difficult with a separate brush. I have my eye on this - Pro Collection Salon One Step Hair Dryer and Volumiser www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B072VH43KL/ref=cmswrcpapiikXXsDbGEN9PPD]]

I'll try that link again sorry

Hmmm now I think I need both! Probably was originally envisaging dry hair tool, bit now second guessing myself.

You’ve just alerted me to the fact the Glide has come back in stock! Thank you, I was looking at it constantly a while ago and it was unavailable for months and I had given up hope Smile
I haven’t tried any others though so I don’t have any recommendations, sorry Blush

kmini · 08/08/2019 21:23

I hadn't even realised that existed until I read sali Hughes column over the weekend. Curse the guardian!!!

Mine is being delivered next week, I’m in 2 minds about it, I have a feeling it’s going to be crap on my hair but my sister will make use of it if I can’t.
The reviews I’ve seen and you tube videos (with one or two exceptions) I’ve watched show it being used on pretty straight flat hair to begin with. If only they knew the struggle Grin

matahairyy · 09/08/2019 08:42

I got the babyloss one last year. It’s ok. Not sure I like the look

matahairyy · 09/08/2019 08:44

Was like £30 on amazon

Notstrongandstable · 09/08/2019 08:50

Reading with interest....
I also read the Sali Hughes column and immediately wanted to buy the ghd glide!
I'm worried it will barely tame my hair but the lower temperatures is a big draw. Flat irons are so bad for your hair!
Ordered one from John Lewis yesterday and am picking it up later on...excited but am preparing to be slightly let down!

Princessfaffalot · 10/08/2019 14:35

Isn’t the glide just one temperature?

kmini · 10/08/2019 21:36

Glide is one temperature. Which in the end why i didn't but it.

In the end, I bought the Bearmoo. Best rating on Amazon for 29. Only found it after another persons reply above re the furiden.

Really happy on the whole. Definitely quicker than my ghd straightener. Quickly heats up, hair feels soft, seems less harsh than straighteners. Hair still gets frizzy afterwards, esp in this type of weather we are having, but maybe I need some more anti frizz treatment.

Forgot I had this pic of my hair after it.

Alternative to Ghd glide
browzingss · 10/08/2019 22:33

I am very tempted by the GHD glide. Was very close to buying it when it was launched, but it sold out very quickly.

However if I’m being honest, a lot of the glowing reviews online seem to be from sponsored bloggers etc, so it’s hard to get a realistic idea of how the product performs. I have seen bloggers go over it with normal straighteners so seems a bit gimmicky/redundant?

Also I think the limited stock of the product is a bit of a marketing tactic to make buyers just instant buy it in the worry that it will sell out again, so I’m sort of not trying to buy into the marketing hype

Princessfaffalot · 20/08/2019 11:05

@kmini have you tried it yet? It was my birthday yesterday so want to treat myself if it’s any good?

ElBanana · 20/08/2019 16:30

I have the Glide and I love it so much! I haven't used my beloved GHD straighteners for months now.

HappyGirlNow · 20/08/2019 17:33

I have the Glide, it’s amazing and I rarely use my straighteners anymore 💕

Princessfaffalot · 20/08/2019 21:00

I’m so tempted but the one temperature setting is putting me off, I have very fine fragile bleached hair and I’m worried about frazzling it!
