Interview suit for rugby playing DS

DS 17 needs a suit for university interviews and a coupe of other formal occasions this year.

He is 5ft 11, more body than leg, broad shouldered and has muscly thighs. He looks like the first picture, but wants a suit like the second picture, which clearly isn't going to happen...

We can't afford made to measure, but could run to alterations. We'd like 2 pairs of trousers.

We're based in London.

Any suggestions of brands / designs / deals ?

NEXT have a wide selection of styles at different price points, and more importantly come in different fits and lengths. Get him to try on in store then order the ones he likes.

Debenhams have a range where you pair the jacket and trousers separately which enables you to buy for broader top/different sized trousers etc.

I would go to Slaters; there’s a branch around East Croydon. I got my favourite smart suit there- very reasonably priced and they assist, measure and adjust as needed.

My 6' 1" rugby player son (prop) finds that Skopes suits are just right for his body shape. His suit came from House of Fraser. He also had 1 from M&S and 1 from Next. All were a slim fit cut. He's a very similar body shape to your description.

Ds is 17 and a similar shape. He ended up with a Michael Kors and went up a size in the trousers to give more thigh room. The shop tailored the trousers so the too big waistband was a good fit.
He also has one from Samuel Windsor we ordered online. We ordered two sizes of jacket and returned one as we weren’t sure whether 42 or 44L - they often have sales.

Ornery can you remember what design the Samuel Windsor one was? We seem to get offers from them through the door every week! Also, how much alteration did it need?

We bought swimmer DS a slim fit suit from M&S. At 6’1” he needed a 42 long jacket and 30 long trouser. No alteration needed. The cheaper ones (sadly) wouldn’t fit but slightly more expensive worked well.

Shirts however are a nightmare!

Mango do FANTASTIC suits. I just got one for a wedding for my very tall boy, they're a bit more trendy that what you might find in marks, great price and great quality.

Kayaker son- 6 foot broad shoulders has suits from M&S, and Jeff Banks. I prefer brands where you can buy top and bottom seperately eg M&S. M&S washable wool were great for 6th form at school.

I can’t, sorry - it was just before Christmas but they do seem to have a lot of offers! The 42L fitted perfectly and didn’t need any tailoring - they seem to be ok with returns, too.
