£18 on a pair of socks

Who here would actually spend £18 on one pair of socks. Just plain black mens socks.

Nothing special like made in UK or knitted from a lamb’s golden bum hair. Nope just branded black socks.

maybe and only maybe if they were hand knitted, but thats it

We regularly (well prefer discounted) pay that much for decent technical socks, bamboo or merino, but average socks ?

I did have some amazing Alpaca socks bought me this year, will look forward to wearing them on the winter

InsertFunnyUsername · 04/08/2019 12:31

Absolutely not.

RezCowgirl · 04/08/2019 13:07

Nope

Approximately 23years ago, I bought a pair of good wool hiking socks in New Zealand as I was on holidays (and I like stupid mementos).
They cost a ridiculous amount of money (can't remember how much, but I know they were like £15 at the time).

I still wear them- they are as good as new. Literally- they haven't balled up, or got thinner.

I've bought multipacks of M&S or Primark socks which have nothing like the longevity. They twist on my feet, get holes at the big toe or wear through at the heel.
But, if I buy "branded" Pringle or Tommy Hilfiger socks in TKMaxx- those will last.

At this stage of my life, I tend to buy the more expensive option in basics such as socks etc. They'll see me out!

If the quality is there and they would last years I would. Though I can buy good quality socks from Muji for a lot less.

Galicali · 04/08/2019 18:09

I pay that much for running socks and would pay that much for the good quality socks.

Greyhound22 · 04/08/2019 19:06

I would for a decent pair of riding socks or some hand knitted ones.

I buy bamboo for my son but tend to pay about £3 on the Joules outlet.

But just because they have a fancy name on? Nope.

Ouch no

TremblingFanjo · 04/08/2019 19:19

I bought a pair of socks for DH for £18 but they were happysocks with photos of him cuddling his favourite cat on.

XingMing · 04/08/2019 19:28

I don't pay quite so much but £13 per pair for pure mohair socks. Deliciously comfortable, and I get about 5 years wear per pair, so eventually less spendy than M&S socks, and infinitely more comfortable and sustainable.

When I was a PCSO and wearing in new work boots I spent an absolute fortune on socks to try and stop blisters! Think I spent £20 on a pair once 🙈
