Am I Ditching the Skinnies Now?

Help.

I'm trying to Marie wotsit my wardrobe. I have far too much stuff.

I kind of had a revelation a few weeks back that I don't actually look that good in skinny jeans and much prefer a looser fit with roll up. I'm top heavy so they just don't balance me. I'm scared though that come winter I will miss them. Also I'll be left with one pair of jeans and a cropped cullote type pair. What does everyone wear with long boots etc? Or for smarter wear?

What jeans are people wearing now? I have my eye on some vintage looking Toast ones. I can't face bootcut.

Thank-you

I prefer straight or slim leg jeans but do have a pair of skinnies for winter.

PickingUpLicks · 03/08/2019 17:29

I wear slim leg with a turn- up, current favourites are Mint Velvet 'Houston'. In Winter I'll wear skinnies with long boots, or straight/ slim leg with ankle boots.

Floisme · 03/08/2019 17:55

I’ve kept one pair to wear with a favourite oversized chunky jumper. Otherwise I’m done with them but then I never liked them that much anyway. Last winter I wore mostly slim, relaxed leg and this time round I’d like some barrel / curved leg.

AuntieStella · 03/08/2019 18:01

It's worth keeping skinnies to wear with fabulous boots that you want on show

I've seen quite a lot of wide leg in stiffish fabrics for A/W, and it really is fugly (works with flowing fabrics, not corduroy, denim or leather). OTOH it's also in the Damart catalogue, where it isn't particularly expensive.

Notcontent · 03/08/2019 18:55

I do like looser and straight leg jeans but I am also going to continue wearing skinnies (particularly in winter) because I am very petite (short and skinny!) so they suit me.

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 03/08/2019 19:25

I'm wearing slim fit ones now. In winter, I may just wear them with ankle boots - if I have long boots I want to show off, I wear a skirt with them. I have never looked good in skinnies and only wore them for lack of other options.

DistantDream · 03/08/2019 19:33

Yeah just keep a couple of pairs for your winter boots! I agree though, skinnies don't look great on me either but neither do bootcut. I need to go out and try lots of styles I think.

Greyhound22 · 03/08/2019 19:53

Thanks everyone- not even heard of barrel or curve leg will have a look.

Will keep a pair or two then as I'm saving up for some expensive long boots I've seen but def will look at other options. This is the problem when you were a size 6 and being ill turns you into a 14. I still carried on buying the same sort of clothes 😑

I have several pairs of barrel leg jeans (mine are the Whistles ones) and love them. My other staple style is culottes/cropped wide leg. I kept one pair of black skinny jeans to wear with blouses for work, but never wear them outside work. I am not a long boots person though.

Blankscreen · 04/08/2019 06:09

I actually got rid of my skinnies and my heeled long boots a few weeks back.

I hadn't worn them for years and I think the whole look is a bit dated.
I've got some.dubarry boots which look good with slightly looser jeans tucked in.

dudsville · 04/08/2019 07:16

I still like them because they suit my shape, but I also have always kept straight legged as an alternative, depending on the outfit.

Thinkle · 04/08/2019 07:50

I bought some curved high waisted jeans from Uniqlo the other week and I absolutely love them!

origamiunicorn · 04/08/2019 09:16

I prefer straight or skinny. The wide leg/culotte cropped type of jeans are in now but they will date badly, think they already are.

Straight and skinnies are classics in my opinion.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 04/08/2019 09:17

I think it's worth keeping one or two of your nicest pairs and ditching the rest. I think the Kondo approach can be a bit harsh if you are normal person with a regular amount of clothes and not a hoarder with spare bedrooms packed ceiling high with things you never touch!

dontgobaconmyheart · 04/08/2019 10:16

Same as above really- I barely touch my skinnies and love in straight leg/mom Jean's rolled up at the moment. Am keeping the skinnies though, especially for winter - but just my favourite few pairs in each colour, the rest have gone to charity already- I had realised it had been a year or even two since I'd worn them. I tend to wear culottes etc in other fabrics if I'm not in denim so they've not had a look in in a long long time! I think the current fashion has definitely moved on from them for the most part!

happytobemrsg · 04/08/2019 10:21

Skinny jeans are handy for when I want to tuck them in my boots. I HATE it when they flop about & don’t tuck in properly. I prefer the look of looser jeans with a roll up (like you OP), but they go best with trainers on me & sometimes I just don’t want a cold ankle 😬

Wellhellothere101 · 04/08/2019 10:39

I agree skinnies are nicest with ankle boots in winter. I can't really find any looser jeans I like for summer though. Anyone got any photos or links of ones that they like? The thought of shopping for a new jeans style fills me with dread!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 04/08/2019 11:02

Oh, my post was confusing - I don’t wear culottes/wide legs in denim. They are “trousers” rather than jeans.

BenWillbondsPants · 04/08/2019 11:15

I would keep some. I also agree that they look good in winter with boots, it's the summer ballet flat/sandal that I think makes them look so dated. They seem to go well with most style of boot, more so than many other type of jeans.

Andallofasuddenitsover · 04/08/2019 15:55

I love skinnies, they make my legs look great. I’ll never stop wearing them Grin

bluebeck · 04/08/2019 16:41

Boot cut suit me best but I am worried I will look dated in them, especially as I am quite old Blush

Mom/straight jeans don't suit me at all. I have skinny legs and a stomach that looks like I am 6 months pregnant.

BenWillbondsPants · 04/08/2019 16:55

Wear what suits you and you feel comfortable in! How old is 'quite old' anyway? I'm ancient compared to some on here but I don't care!

bluebeck · 04/08/2019 16:58

Thanks Ben you are very kind - 54!

I am very large of nork so I feel like the boot cut balances me out a bit, although I could be kidding myself...

I have a DD in her 20s who doesn't hold back in telling me what I should and shouldn't be wearing Grin

IdblowJonSnow · 05/08/2019 17:45

I've yet to find a pair of jeans that have suited me in the last 3 - 4 years - I'd just wear what suits you and feels good.
I'm petite and slimmish but with large thighs, I have parsnip legs in skinny jeans Hmm

StubbleTurnips · 09/08/2019 23:17

I’ve gone back to bootcut, and I don’t give a hoot. I like them, they balance my rack / hip silhouette out.
I’m not old, so go for it blue
I always feel like a walking parsnip in skinny jeans.
