Anyone tried ELF or can recommend another budget Foundation?

Hi

I am off work at the moment, so money is tight. But I am going back soon. I need some foundation and looking at budget brands.

ELF seems to have some Good reviews, just wondering if anyone has tried it or any other budget brand that's good.

I am 37, skin is good, a little fine lines around the eyes. Little on the dry side. I dont like a very heavy coverage.

Thank you.

Not sure about the foundation, sorry, but Elf mascara and eyeliner are really good

Wishihad · 03/08/2019 07:54

Thank you that's good to know as I do need some other bits. I have been looking at them and make up revolution.

I never tried ELF as it used to be mail order only. But I believe it's in boots now. May have to just go into town and give it play.

Haven't tried elf but they have it in Superdrug, not sure about boots.

mogloveseggs · 03/08/2019 08:00

Not tried the foundation but dd swears by the eyebrow stuff.
Had a few lipsticks they were nice.

I used to use the foundation - it was fairly average coverage. It doesn't come in many shades though so I either ended up with one too pale or slightly too dark for my own complexion. I ended up switching to NYX Matte not Flat as it had similar coverage but more shades to pick from.

Wishihad · 03/08/2019 08:14

Wow, thank you! Lots of things to try.

@Jxtina86 is NYX good?

@Wishihad I really like it! I think they do a couple of different foundations but I like the Matte not Flat as it's not too heavy but still gives enough coverage for day to day use. They're in big Boots I think but sometimes don't have the full range of shades. They are on Asos though so I usually order through them now I know my shade.

Wishihad · 03/08/2019 08:48

@Jxtina86 thats sounds brilliant. I will take a look. I dint mind ordering online ince I know what it is I want. Just ordering from ELF online when I don't know if its the right shade etc seems a bit of a gamble.

Sounds likes that's the coverage I was. Enough coverage for day to day use but not full on coverage.

ELF is in Superdrug and NYX is in our local Superdrug, but not all of them. I really like the ELF setting spray, super cheap too!

thewifewhosaidno · 03/08/2019 21:27

I've got quite dry skin, and didn't find NYX foundation worked well for me, making it look dryer and flakey in places - so if your thinking of going for it, definitely try it or get a sample first if you can! (And if you find a good one let me know 😩)

Wishihad · 04/08/2019 14:21

Sooo I didnt get a foundation 🙈

I wasnt that keen on the NYC was the texture seemed a but think the tester had been left open a while. Also most of the testers had been stolen so couldnt see all the colours.

So will need another trip. This superdrug didnt have ELF either. So need to find a better bigger one.

So I got make up revolution brow premade, conceal and define concealer and eyeliner. And some skin care, will let you know how I find it.

Make up revolution have a conceal and hydrate foundation coming out soon. So I light go take a look at that when it's out. See if I like the texture of that.

I got a CYO foundation from Boots the other day. I quite like it. I’d say it’s a light to medium coverage & they have quite a few range of shades. Around the £7 mark I think.

Anois · 04/08/2019 14:27

Bourjois healthy mix is really nice.

Twiggywinkle13 · 04/08/2019 14:31

Maybe too late to the party but The Ordinary foundation the serum one, is one of my faves and it’s only £5!

ilovewelshrarebit123 · 04/08/2019 14:58

I had my makeup done by a professional makeup artist a few weeks back and she used everything from MAC except the foundation.

She said the best she's ever used was one called The Ordinary Foundation and it costs £5.90! It went on really well and have a medium coverage.

I've not seen it in shops so think you'll have to google.

Wishihad · 04/08/2019 15:05

I have never heard of the ordinary.

I will have to look it up.

I have my make up done for going out a few years ago and she used a clarins one. I bought it and dont find it looks as good as when she does it. She changes which foundation she uses all the time and still looks amazing. She uses some cheap make up as well. The LA girl concealer is only about £3 and she swears by it.

Maybe I should bite the bullet. She doesn make up lessons and shows you everything she uses and techniques. Maybe I need to save up for that.

I always say it I win the lottery she has to come make up shopping with me for the day and I will but whatever she tells me to 😂
