How badly does hard water affect your skin?!

For the past year since moving to East anglia I feel like I've had real problems with my skin. I really think I have aged quite quickly. My skin is so dry, I'm always blotchy looking and my very long, blonde hair looks dry and frazzled a lot of the time. I rarely wear it down anymore. I use a lot of products on my skin, and feel like I need a lot of makeup to cover up.

We went to Cornwall for a holiday at Easter, and I noticed my skin was softer, not at all dry and I confidently went out with no make up on for the first time in ages. We're now in Scotland and once again, the visible difference after just a day is unbelievable.
I left my suitcase full of face products at home and I was so panicky thinking I'd be sore and dry the whole week. But here I am with no moisturiser, serum, oil etc, no make up at all save a bit of vaseline on my lashes/lips and dh has just said I look 5 years younger.

I'm going to have to get a water softener aren't I?
