I've had enough with bras

BlueMoonAndRedNose · 30/07/2019 07:04

I realise this must be a middle age thing (late 40s) and being a little overweight, but I find bras so unflattering and uncomfortable, I am eyeing up bralets, which I had never considered before. The thing I don't like about bras is that they give me a cleavage with low cut tops and create fat back bulge. My size is 34C I think, so I feel I can get away with some light support. I would love some recommendations to create a smoother silhouette. Thanks so much.

I've given up caring I'm currently on the Triumph Doreen bra and pray I don't get taken into A and E.

Stpancras · 30/07/2019 07:08

I’m a 32E (implants i should say) and have just converted to bralets. I LOVE them. No going back now...

PickAChew · 30/07/2019 07:12

You're probably in the wrong size.

EL2019 · 30/07/2019 07:18

When was the last time you were properly fitted?

Writersblock2 · 30/07/2019 07:38

Molke!

Kaz2200 · 30/07/2019 07:57

I've just put this on another post but I'm loving the jockey bralet, they have thin straps so you can wear them under anything. There are some cheap 2 packs on ebay.

ConfCall · 30/07/2019 08:03

Laughing at the Doreen/A and E comment - I have one, and often when I wear it, I’m asked if I’ve lost weight. So flattering and comfortable ...but so ugly.

RaggeddeeAnn · 30/07/2019 08:08

If you are overweight, highly unlikely you are 34 anything. I second the suggestion to get remeasured.
Personally, I like cotton sports bras.

I have these in every colour. So cheap and comfortable. Won't go back to diggie in underwired torture.

chocolatespiders · 30/07/2019 08:11

Try the boob and bust method to measure yourself.

Sainsburys do a good range of comfy adult crops tops.

BlueMoonAndRedNose · 30/07/2019 08:15

I measure 34" under my breast. I am overweight because I am only 5.1" and I am stuffing myself into a size 10 top, but size 12 bottoms.

I got measured properly at Rigby and Peller and have some lovely (although very expensive) bras from there that are comfy to wear. However I get terrible acid and indigestion quite often and bras make it worse so when that happens I wear M&S crop tops. I'm a 38D and they give enough support although obviously can only be worn under certain tops.

Boom25 · 30/07/2019 08:18

oh those look so comfortable! what are they like for the large of breast?

gubbsywubbsy · 30/07/2019 08:20

Try marks and Spencer sumptuously soft bras .. very comfy , I can sleep in them if I choose to .

KindnessCrusader · 30/07/2019 08:35

I switched to bralets a couple of years ago and I will never go back! They look better for me under clothes and waaaay more comfortable!

motortroll · 30/07/2019 08:35

I'm 36f and just got some wireless bras from m and s. Most bralete don't go to my size but they're so many wireless options now, I'm so happy! I also have a post surgery bra from m and s which is a bit more structured but so comfy!

I have also looked at Molke bras but all the feedback says the band should be tight and I have a back issue which is hugely affected by tight bras! (I actually wear a 38e even though I'm a 36f as it's more comfy on my back)

BlueMoonAndRedNose · 30/07/2019 08:36

Kindness could you link to some please?

Cysincos Womens Seamless Bralette Padded Wireless Bra Crop Top with Adjustable Straps https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07G9F867K/ref=cmswwrcppapiii_5o.pDb38CPGDM

I have these in every colour and they do strapless options too!

Nonsense!
I am a good 5 to 6 stone overweight and I'm a 36G!

Though I have very severely flared ribs which means I actually can't wear any bra at all, even cotton sports bras, as any compression at all round my ribcage is excruciatingly painful.

But you can definately be a 34 if overweight.
Most women are wearing the wrong size bra and a lot of the time it's too loose a back band...

fishonabicycle · 30/07/2019 09:21

I moved to wireless (m&s and a couple from Asda) - so much more comfy. I ain't never going back 😀

If OP is size 10, she probably needs smaller band than 34, not bigger. My mum is size 18 and 34 bra.

Pomgirl · 30/07/2019 12:20

I wear these

www.marksandspencer.com/flexi-fit-non-padded-full-cup-bra-a-f/p/p60090766?prevPage=srp

Sooo comfy and no back fat!

slipperyeel · 30/07/2019 12:28

34 is not a big band size. I’m 5ft2 and a stone overweight and a band size 32, measured by both Rigby & Peller and Bravissimo.

Royce non underwired are pretty good, when at home I wear crop tops. I don’t miss underwired bras at all.

Oldraver · 30/07/2019 12:28

I started to wear no bra a year or so ago but isnt always possible with some clothes.

I wear the soft/comfort bras for work though I am usually in a polo top.

George do these with a lace panel which were great when I had to wear a shirt for work

teta · 30/07/2019 13:00

I love Sloggi Zero feel bras but I've just found a brilliant hot weather alternative - cotton Bralettes from Muji, with a bit of strategic padding. The material is so soft, stretchy and supportive, but I'm not sure they're sold in the UK.
