White trainers

After seeing on another thread that white trainers are only for teenagers I thought I would ask on here! I want some trainers to wear with summer dresses and I am almost 50. Surely trainers are for everyone? What should I be looking for if I don't want to look like I'm chanelling my inner teenager?

Well the teenagers are weaing massive retro clunky ugly Spice Girl things so as long as you wear neat and tidy ones you'll be fine.

You certainly don't have to spend much. River Island is recommended a lot at the cheaper end, and Holly W has just released a pair for M&S. If you want a trainer brand, Superga or Adidas Stan Smiths are very popular.

Pipandmum · 27/07/2019 15:21

Who decides these things? Wear what you like!

PaulinesPenStash · 27/07/2019 15:45

Where what you like !

White trainers are classic

Sod age I'm almost 40 and have the chunky sole Fila ones

TheFairyCaravan · 27/07/2019 15:54

Wear what you feel comfortable in. I wear white Stan Smiths with Summer dresses, skirts, shorts, culottes and jeans. I don't care if people think they're for teenagers only, I don't and neither do the hundreds of other women that I see in white trainers.

timeforakinderworld · 27/07/2019 18:26

Thanks ! I tried some Superga ones on today that I liked the look of but they were so uncomfy! The search continues..

Stan Smiths are the comfiest for me.

But also don't discount Tom's if you're looking for flat closed shoes with dresses. Some people find them easier to wear than trainers which are bulky no matter what you buy, let's face it. Tom's are suprisingly warm and very comfy, especially when you break them in and they stretch a bit.

BellaVita · 27/07/2019 18:31

I am 54 next month and wear white Stan Smiths.

CoconutAmericano · 27/07/2019 20:00

Im 42 and today I wore Fila Disruptors with a Zara floral maxi dress and felt fabulous!

halfmoonbay · 27/07/2019 20:02

I've just bought myself a pair of Cole Hahn white leather trainers. They are lovely and really comfortable. Highly recommended - I'm nearly 50 too.

PaulinesPenStash · 27/07/2019 20:02

@CoconutAmericano that outfit sounds freaking awesome 👏

CoconutAmericano · 27/07/2019 20:07

Oh thank you PaulinesPenStash that’s very kind of you Smile

Cadence09 · 27/07/2019 20:15

Converses are good for everyone

HRH2020 · 27/07/2019 20:18

Vans?

SinglePringle · 27/07/2019 20:22

AARRGGHHHH! With the the ‘be age appropriate’ comments on this bloody site!!

WEAR WHAT THE FUCK YOU LIKE.

This is not directed at you OP but I am (as pointed out on a similar current thread) 49. I am the proud owner of:

Big fuck off white ‘90’s trainers
White Stan Smiths
White and Blue Stan Smiths
Adidas Gazelles
Lacoste white trainers (no idea of name)
Grey and orange fucking ugly but beautiful Addidas only available in Japan things.
Converse in many colours (but mainly white)

I also own stilettos, wedges, brogues, espadrilles, flat forms, ankle boots, knee-high boots, more stilettos, more ankle boots, more ‘gym’ trainers and on and on and on.

Sometimes I look ‘neat and tidy’, sometimes I look like a 20 year old on acid at their first festival and sometimes I channel June from The Handmaids Tale.

Please OP, life is short - buy the shoe you love.

Pepperstripe · 27/07/2019 20:24

Another vote for Toms.

emajw1983 · 28/07/2019 09:14

I'm 36 and wear converse or vans. I get some funny looks off the younger parents at school but who cares!? They're comfy. Should be able to wear what you like no matter what your age!

Charley50 · 28/07/2019 09:31

Hear hear single Pringle!

Terrysyogurt · 28/07/2019 09:34

Do they have to be named brands, seen a nice pair in PrimarkBlush too naff?

tierraJ · 28/07/2019 10:22

I've got a nice pair of Adidas Superstars white with gold flashes £50 down from £80 from Office recently.
They look good with my jeans & also my short summer dresses.
Just need to keep them nice & white!!

timeforakinderworld · 28/07/2019 10:49

WEAR WHAT THE FUCK YOU LIKE

Of course, you are quite right and normally I do. I don't know why trainers are the exception!

49 next month and happily wearing my Stan Smiths to Paris tomorrow

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 28/07/2019 11:22

I'm 36 and wear converse or vans. I get some funny looks off the younger parents at school but who cares!?
Really? Neither of those are particularly 'out there' or young and are worn by all ages.

Knowivedonewrong · 28/07/2019 11:43

I'm 48 and wear white Adidas trainers at work.

Charley50 · 28/07/2019 12:40

@tierraJ - dirty white trainers are the look this summer.. so no need to even keep them clean!

Tbh I live in trainers now. Got dodgy knees and being comfortable is more important to me than anything. Primark, Converse, Adidas, Nike, Gucci, bring them all on!

And 36 is no ducking age! Wtf!!!

slipperyeel · 28/07/2019 16:24

I’m 44 and I have several pairs of Nike and Adidas. They are comfortable, good for your feet and fit whether you have narrow or wide feet.
I have had comments from teenagers saying they like my trainers and if anyone has ever given me funny looks I haven’t noticed. I suspect most people couldn’t give a €$¥^ what I wear in my feet.
