Shorts?

Do you wear shorts? Are they a real no go?

I'm off to France for a few weeks. I'm fatter than I should be. I have dresses. And not a lot else. I have 2 small children. Hence the requirement for days of playing, clambering around after them.

I think I need some shorts, but what doesn't look hideous? I've always just worn denim shortish (Not mega short) but not comfy with that atm. So they need to fall just below mid thigh ideal, towards knee.

Any suggestions? Size 14-16. 5ft 7.

Definitely get some shorts!

I'm a size 14 short-arse, and wear Levis denim shorts, but they're probably a bit shorter than you want.

How are they on the legs? Although my legs aren't competitively huge, I find a lot too tight so they dig in on the hem iyswim.

Scrap that, just looked them up, definitely wouldn't be comfy in those!

They are quite loose at the bottom - definitely don't dig in on the hem.

I saw loads of pairs of shorts in Fatface the other day. Maybe worth a look?

I wear the ASDA poplin shorts they are so comfortable. I'm 5ft2 and a 14-16. Out of stock online at the moment though in black and navy but there are other colours.

Shorts are pretty essential when in very hot weather. I have a pair of pale denim shorts, they are short shorts though not the knee length ones. Also having lovely chino shorts from Boden. Don't fall into the trap of thinking longer shorts are better because they cover more leg - shorter shorts are actually far more flattering as they lengthen the leg.

@Ellapaella I wouldn't mind a bit shorter so long as the hem wasn't too tight. My legs aren't huge but somehow I've always struggled a bit in this respect, even as a size 10!

@NCforleg thanks, I think I'm more likely to spend £7 than £50 at this stage!! I'll try and get into asda.
