Spray Tan before holiday?

Hi all, I am going on our family sun holiday in two weeks time and I am considering getting a spray tan before we go? Just wondering if it is a good or bad idea? I will be in and out of pool and sea a bit with the kids. We are only going for a week. Thanks!

They tend to start to wear off after 3/4 days and can go quite patchy. You might be better off with a buildable tan that you can use after your shower every couple of days.

I always get one and it lasts about 8 days if you look after it properly. Make sure you exfoliate and moisturise really well in the days up to application and then after application make sure you moistUrose it twice a day, i use a st tropez spray tan and they do a moisturiser that helps prolong the tan. If it only lasts three to four days then it hasn't been applied properly imho.

@Madbengalmum Even if you're in and out of the pool?

Happytot · 26/07/2019 22:31

Thanks for your replies. I am very tempted to get one. If it does get patchy I presume a fake tan remover would get rid of any streaks?

I always do this ! You will be fine

Think I will go with a St Tropez tan. Any tips to keep it looking ok?

Hopeishere, yes. The key is moisturise with the correct product and make sure the base for the tan is exfoliated and moisturised to the max. I use st tropez tan enhancing moisturiser and it seems to work well, that is for the six or seven times i have used it. I also always go for the st tropez faster tan, cant remember the exact name, but the one that develops quicker than the classic tan as it seems to have more longevity. There is a luxury tan too, it looked nicer to start with more of a glow, but didnt last like the fast tan.

I almost got a full week out of my last one, but added tips are:

Bring a gradual tanner esp for your hands and feet as they will fade first (my tanning lady gave me this tip). I just started putting it on in the evening after about 3 days and it worked!
If you wear foundation bring 2 colours- to match your tanned neck and your real neck - just in case it's faded by the flight home Wink

I am the only person I know that comes home from a sun holiday paler than when I go Grin

Thanks for the tips! I think I will buy the St Tropez gradual tanner and just hope for the best. Booked in for the spray Tuesday week the day before we fly out. Do your tans last even if ye were going in and out of the pool or did you stay out of the pool?

You can buy travel sized versions of fake tan at the airport now so you can top up while you're away. Or, as a PP said, have a spray tan done and then bring a daily / gradual tanner with you.

Maybe also bring a fake tan eraser in case it starts to fade off in a weird way. I looked like I had mange for a few days on my last holiday. Sad

I got one this year and it was fab! If you get a good one, it should just fade without going patchy. I was in and out of the pool/sea and just topped up using a gradual tan.

Happytot · 27/07/2019 14:32

Brilliant!! Thank you all for replying I am feeling more confident now about getting it done. Smile

I love spray tans but I find they just don't last if you're in & out of the pool or sweating a lot...both very normal on a family holiday!
I've had a couple for hols, first time it was fairly cloudy & I didn't go in the pool much so it lasted pretty well although you have to take care of it, dabbling with a towel after showers etc.
Second time it was very sunny so obviously plenty of swimming/beach etc & after a few days it went horribly patchy. Gradual tanners did nothing & I had no choice but to majorly exfoliate. As a non stop fake tanner I felt horribly pale for the last few days! I'm definitely going to use gradual tanners to build up a colour for this year's holiday. They seem to sink into the skin a bit more & last longer.
