For heaven’s sake....I’m old!

Ok. So all of a sudden, I look old. My eye sight is going so, I thought I was doing ok. When I leave the house in the morning I think I look ok. However, I’ve recently had a few impromptu photos taken outside, in broad daylight and Jesus...I look terrible.

I’m 57 so, I KNOW it’s only a matter of time but even so, my usual facebases are looking heavy and showing wrinkles I didn’t know I’d earned.

I’ve got Chanel Les Beiges and Laura Mercier Oil Free TM. So, do I just except it’s OVER and start to disappear from public life OR... is there anything I’m missing?

I just put a light dusting of bronzer across the cheeks, eyelids , jawline and chest for sun kissed look.

I feel your pain...I can't believe how much my face suddenly seems to be sagging and my skin tone has gone blotchy. I am 54...must be an age thing. I too have been looking at different foundations and skin care regimes...and have no idea what to do with my hair (beyond colour!)
Clothes wise I am ok as am a 10/12 and feel fairly ok in what I choose to wear (silk leopard print type skirt today with white t shirt...and hiking boots earlier when I walked the dog...I wear what I want including shorts and think anyone should if they feel ok in it) but skin care/look and hair.....oh dear me...….

@febel, there’s a huge difference (for me) in just the last two years. To be fair, I think some of it’s genetic. My mum suddenly had a kind of “face drop” which was very noticeable in her mid 50’s. I thought it was her habit of sun worshipping in the 60’s/70’s when we didn’t know better and all tans were “healthy” and her smoking. I guess they contributed massively but there’s definitely a genetic component. My Nan had amazing skin but she was overweight all her life. My skin has lost its “cushion” support, I think. I’m going to order either the dvd or book on Eve Fraser. Will get back to you all 😊

A couple of changes this week are that I’ve “hidden” my eyeliner. Even though it’s briwn, I think it’s just too hard, too emphasising of the eye which then draws attention to the overall ageing of that area. So, I’m doing a pale beige cream eye shadow and lots of mascara. I think it’s a bit kinder, without “losing” my eyes altogether.

Have started with The Ordinary 2% Granactive Retinoid Emulsion at the weekend. And @Soola, I did as you advised with the Utan Skin Idol and mixed with with my Moisturiser which was better than just fingers, over spf50 😊. I like it!

I think the brow mascara has made a BIG difference. I was using a (too dark for me) pencil which I think gave me a pissed off look. The Blonde Nyx colour is spot in. So thank you, Boots lady who talked me out of a darker shade!

I’m trying to eat more fruit. Upping water intake is a bit more difficult for me but, I’ll give it a go.

I have a rare trip into town tomorrow to meet friends for lunch so, might get to mooch in a department store. Any recommendations for a lip gloss that’s NOT just shiny/sticky gloop and actually has a “shade” to it. Not dark ones....I like pinks. TIA.

Have you checked out Look Fabulous Forever? (haven't read the whole thread). I'm 61, liked the attitude and found their tips helpful and their primer is amazing.

febel · 06/08/2019 18:41

Well miss Kittybeaudelais..I think you look amazing...and your skin is better than mine..I would LOVE to look like you ..and your hair! Love it...mine unfortunately is thinning now I think and doesn't seem to like to grown anywhere past my shoulders unfortunately...if that. I have been using a new eye product called Windows of the Soul..sold by Temple Spa (can get it online.) I am NOT a seller of this but a friend was using it and I commented how well she was looking and she said she had started using this. I have and I do think it's made a difference to me...just feel I look brighter. I am funny about eye cream as seem to be allergic/sensitive to a lot of them but have been ok with this. I had a sample to use and am going to buy it although it isn't cheap as I love it so much.

And don't listen to people ...unless they are complimenting you!. You look amazing, you are alive at 57 (unlike some of my friends who have had the big C and it's won..life is sht at times) and you are doing what sounds like an amazing job. Neck wise, mine is going too..,it;s a bmmer and if anyone knows a fool proof way which doesn't involve surgery to help I'd be interested to hear!

@febel...my hair’s dropping out in handfuls. I know this by the fact that every other day, I have to remove it from the brush on the vacuum cleaner as it stops picking up in wooden floors 😐. But, thank you, love.

I’m giving The Ordinary Caffiene drops a go from last week. Will see how that pans out. I’d never heard of Temple Spa. Excellent reviews 😊. Hope it helps, for you.

You’re right of course. We’re still here. Still living. I was a nurse for 26 yrs and have seen many people, younger than myself, go. I think a little perspective is required from me.

Hoping all you lovely ladies who’re still here have a good day 😊

Hi OP
I'm just going to chime in and say that you look younger than 57!
Also I have just started using a fake olaplex called Pureplex. It's £8 in superdrug at the moment (rather than £12) so worth a try. My hair is like straw from 30 yrs of home dyeing and it does seem to be helping (only done 2 treatments so far).
Good luck!

Milliy · 09/08/2019 11:48

febel a lot of us do face exercises and it seems to be working for keeping things looking toned. My neck is ok too . I exercise my face every day , my main focus being cheeks and jaw line. Good cheek muscles hold everything up.

febel · 10/08/2019 07:37

I didn't realise they could really work...would you be kind enough to tell me how/where to find good ones which work? Thank you so much!

RuggyPeg · 10/08/2019 08:22

Pureaplex is in no way comparable to olaplex.

Don't bother with facials either. They're an expensive waste of time. You can do it all yourself at home with active skincare. I prefer the Inkey list and QRXLABS to the ordinary.

Don't ever be tempted with lip fillers. They ALWAYS look shit on older women. You can ALWAYS tell. I think on younger lips that still have some elasticity and bounce in them, if they're done well, they can look ok but on older lips, they just look ridiculous.

Milliy · 10/08/2019 10:16

Febel Eva Fraser is the woman who did a book on it in the 80s. She has a studio in London where it's taught on a one to one basis. You exercise the muscles in the body to strengthen them and make you look taught and toned. It's the same with face muscles. You tighten them which causes the face to lift.
