Dress too short - please help!

I am going out tomorrow for a friend's birthday. There's tapas, drinks and possibly clubbing. I last went clubbing about 17 years ago. It's not my thing any more, I feel old and frumpy and getting to bed early is my idea of a good night nowadays.
However, it means a lot to her and she means a lot to me, so I bought a dress off Asos a couple of months ago so that I felt committed to going.

I've just tried it on and it's too short. If it were winter I could wear it as a tunic top with jeans. But it's too hot for that. There's no way I can wear the new chub-rub things I bought for it either.

My plan is to buy some big black knickers, preferably shorts style tomorrow and use roll-on deodorant where my thighs rub.

How does that sound? Any better ideas? Any words of encouragement?

Can you post a photo?
How too short is it?
I'd probably wear it a tunic over leggings, maybe 3/4 length ones.

brassbrass · 25/07/2019 16:49

Could you link to the dress difficult to advise without knowing anything about it other than its short

Squiz81 · 25/07/2019 17:04

How did you end up not trying it on straight away?!

If you're shopping for knickers tomorrow I would just pick up something more comfy, you won't enjoy the night if you're pulling your skirt down all night

browzingss · 25/07/2019 17:09

Frankly I would just buy a different dress!

If you can’t get to the shops, many retailers offer next day delivery - Asos in particular, who also offer slots so you can arrange a morning delivery.

If the dress looks too short on whilst standing, it will certainly be too short whilst your sitting down and ride up whilst you walk. If you won’t be comfortable with that outside of the club, don’t wear it!

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 25/07/2019 17:11

Can you link to the dress?

Nicelunch25 · 25/07/2019 17:11

Short leggings?

Oblomov19 · 25/07/2019 17:11

Don't do it. You will be uncomfortable all night and that SO isn't worth it. Please wear something else.

Sleepinglemon · 25/07/2019 17:12

Body glide is 6 million times better than deodorant for chub rub, which will ruin your day/night if it happens. You can get it amazon prime or outdoor shops/cycle shops.

newmomof1 · 25/07/2019 17:14

Do you feel comfortable with the length of it? If you feel attractive in it, I think you should just go for it (with the shorts underneath for your own piece of mind)

Expressedways · 25/07/2019 17:18

If it’s so short you’d consider it a tunic to be worn with jeans, i.e. it’s a long top not a dress, then I’d wear something else. You don’t want to be pulling it down all night, flashing when you sit down and generally not feeling comfortable.

browzingss · 25/07/2019 17:21

You need to explain the length a bit better too, are we talking so short that your underwear would be exposed if you lifted your arms up, or a normal length that’s shorter than your usual style eg a mini?

Lilyofthefields · 25/07/2019 17:25

Sorry, yes a photo would be helpful! It's this one

I did try it on when I bought it, perhaps I was just in denial of ever having to wear it??

OP posts:
Lilyofthefields · 25/07/2019 17:27

I'd say that's it's an ok length when I'm stood. It's much shorter than I'd normally wear. I'm worried it's going to ruck up as I walk and I'll be doing that thing where you pull it down.

Lingerie tape (ie double sided) might be an option

brassbrass · 25/07/2019 17:29

How tall are you?! That looks fine to me.

newmomof1 · 25/07/2019 17:29

OP I think you'll be fine in that Smile

Lilyofthefields · 25/07/2019 17:30

5'6, size 14 and my legs and bum are a good feature.

Lilyofthefields · 25/07/2019 17:30

Oh my goodness you lovely people.

OP posts:
Expressedways · 25/07/2019 17:31

That looks a perfectly fine length unless you’re really tall. And it’s a bit floaty at the bottom so it shouldn’t ride up. If you can lift your arms up without flashing your knickers then I think you’re fine. Only if you feel comfortable though!

ladyvimes · 25/07/2019 17:33

Wear it! You’ll look great! It’s high in the chest so perfect to get your legs out!

lawnmowingsucks · 25/07/2019 17:49

Gorgeous. You'll look superb xxx

AndromedaPerseus · 25/07/2019 17:52

Primark had some black cycling shorts in cotton Lycra they would be fine with that dress for modesty and sort out the chub rub too

Lilyofthefields · 25/07/2019 18:07

I won't be able to get to a Primark, I've got a small Asda and a Sports Direct I think. I've found some safety knickers from dancing (they're a little small) and some lube (candy floss flavour) Blush that can be plan B.

I really do appreciate the encouragement, I'll be a little out of my comfort zone.

OP posts:
SavoyCabbage · 25/07/2019 18:17

Surely Sports direct will have some little black shorts. It's a lovely dress.

StarlightLady · 26/07/2019 07:22

From your original description, l expected it to be much shorter. I’d just wear black knickers with it. Shorts or anything else are more likely to show and just look wrong.
