Summer dresses/skirts when you hate your legs...

xJune88 · 24/07/2019 16:16

I had a baby 10 weeks ago but even beforehand never ever got my legs out, ever, there just pale and full of cellulite and just in my opinion awful. If I did I'd wear skin colour tights but this never happened obviously its summer and very hot atm so I cant wear my jeans. Looking for advice from people in a similar boat or links to maxi dresses/skirts please at a budget but that will still look good I'm 5 foot 1 (so need petite) and a size 10. Thanks!!

In exactly the same boat as you so posting for interest! I'm only short too (5'2) so find long skirts/dresses make me look even shorter.

I am also short but find that Hush's maxi dresses fall perfectly on my ankle

Get some fake tan on them to make you feel better. I saw a woman wearing jeans today, and its 32 degrees here. I bet she was wearing them because she didn't like her legs. This makes me sad. If more women with body hang ups just wore the shorts, the sleeveless tops etc, it would help so many more women think, well if she's stripping off, so can I. It's hot. Wear shorts. Nobody will bat an eyelid xxx

Midi dresses should be a good length on you. Plenty of them about at the moment.

haverhill · 24/07/2019 17:42

Firstly, your legs will be no better or worse than most people’s. Guaranteed. Wear shorts if you’re hot.
Fake tan or gradual tanner like Pond’s cocoa butter body lotion (it’s great).
Loose palazzo pants are everywhere at the mo and are very cool to wear.

Think of all the wonderful things your legs do and how lucky you are to have legs that work.
Legs are fab!

Thankyou all it's something I've always struggled with and even more so now I've had a baby. I loved fake tan before I had her but now worried about letting it dry before having to sort her/covering her in it haha. I dont even own a skirt or shorts as I'm that conscious. Oo I like the idea of loose trousers too didnt consider them!! Any links would be appreciated xx

I've just stopped caring what others think of my bare (white & unshaven) legsGrin

I am 5ft3 I wear maxis, or try a midi length and they should come to a maxi length on you, nothing to wide seems to suit me.

haverhill · 24/07/2019 18:38

I got some semi-palazzos today in Tesco Grin - their summer stock is on sale.
Amazon has loads, too - search with ‘wide legged trousers’.

I’m a bit taller than you (5ft 6) and have this skirt in a couple of designs - my photo is actually on the website there wearing it (from Instagram)! It’s super comfy and v flattering. It would be closer to maxi on you.

This sort of culottes/wide leg crops might also be a good option.

This pair comes in petite too, and lots of other shops have similar.

lindyloo57 · 24/07/2019 22:26

They have some trousers like that in primark

AncoraAmarena · 25/07/2019 08:32

I am using an instant tan. Mine is Vita Liberata but there are loads of cheaper ones around. You literally just dot it on your legs and then rub in with a mitt. Takes 30 seconds each leg and you're ready to go.

You don't need a heavily tanned one if you don't want one, there are more skin toned ones available. Don't suffer in jeans or trousers, shove a skirt on and feel the breeze (if there is one, isn't one here!).

Jens4490 · 25/07/2019 15:26

Same situation and the heat is unbareable. Online stores like boohoo have culottes in the sale which go pretty cheap, I tend to get one size larger just so they are extra baggy and loose. Some can be long but I just get some iron on sticky tape and take it up a couple inches. Wearing skirts in hot weather is horrible with chafing so I find culottes a great alternative.
It saves on the shaving as I only then shave and use gradual tan cream on the lower legs

xJune88 · 25/07/2019 15:33

Thanks @Jens4490 that sounds like a good solution! Yeah I've never had chafing before but now the chub rub is real!! I'll have a look thankyou xx

Hi, A few ideas. There’s lots of dresses and skirts around this year. Below the knee with a side slit is easy to wear. Try a skort, it’s a skirt with a pair of shorts underneath.
Can be got in different lengths online.
Culottes are brilliant too. Different lengths available and there’s no problem with chafing. If wearing skirts u can buy thigh-bands to prevent chafing. Other solutions to chafing, simply cut a pair of tights to a suitable length for you so they cannot be seen under your skirt. Talc or deodorant can also be applied to inner thighs.

You can get 'comfort shorts' to avoid the rub, they are a game changer in this heat.
