Is this Black Dress Suitable for a Summer Wedding?

I love this dress and want to wear it to a Summer wedding next year - I am a guest. Is it too black though - I'd wear it with black peep toe shoes and a black handbag. Not sure about what jacket/cardigan yet but I should imagine it will be black. Your thoughts would be most welcome!!

Leaving aside debate as to whether or not it’s appropriate, I would suggest not going black with all your accessories! Way too harsh and heavy for a summer wedding! I’d maybe go yellow or mint green or light blue (whatever suits your colouring) and then accessories with a bag in a complementary colour like pink, orange, yellow (or whatever would go nicely with your jacket). Black shoes would be okay I guess. But personally I would really want to lighten up the outfit.

If the background were white I’d say yes. As it is, it’s a no from me even if you add say orange accessories.

steppemum · 23/07/2019 12:41

I think it is lovely, it really dloesn't look very black, it looks like a summer dress.
I woud agree that making it ligher with non black accessories soudns good. I personally would go for metallic, so silver sandals? But then think a colour jacket would ruin it!

RaininSummer · 23/07/2019 13:03

With bright or pastel accessories it will be lovely but not with black as that will be very gloomy for a wedding. I would go for hot pink accessories myself.

chipsandgin · 23/07/2019 13:04

Definitely too black!

SuzieSunshine · 23/07/2019 13:11

Thank you all!! Yes I agree, I'll jazz it up with a much lighter shawl & bag and ditch the all black jacket. Cheers!!

I would say the dress it's fine except for the ribbon, that's the part that marks it down. Can you ditch the ribbon? And yes, all black accessories it's too much black.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/07/2019 15:28

It's lovely but please don't wear a shawl with it. Silver sandals, pewter or maybe even bright pink could work.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 23/07/2019 15:44

Lovely dress. Another vote for hot pink accessories from me. And no shawl.

SuzieSunshine · 23/07/2019 16:52

On reflection, I think it's too fussy & too black for a wedding so I'm going to go with this one instead. Teamed with a small black shrug, black shoes & black bag. Let's hope I can still get into it in a years time!! Thanks again for all your input - I'm glad I posted.

Why did you buy it a year in advance?

SuzieSunshine · 23/07/2019 22:43

LOL - They were both bought well before the wedding invite and have been in the wardrobe. I just love the first one so much that i thought it would be great for the wedding BUT I do think I need something lighter so who knows - ages to go before I have to make the final decision. Was just interested to see what other people thought.

I still prefer the first dress OP.

StCharlotte · 23/07/2019 23:13

The first dress is fabulous - second one is nice but a bit drab for a wedding. I second hot pink accessories.

nzeire · 24/07/2019 06:50

Both gorgeous! First one perfect for wedding! I’d go silver :)

RandomNameChange415 · 24/07/2019 06:58

I think the first one would be lovely with silver shoes. Not too dark.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/07/2019 07:24

Not loving the second. Agree that it's a bit dull.
