How to get a nice ponytail?

I see people walking around with nice thick, good looking ponytails, how do they do this? They can’t all have naturally thick hair, can they?

I have very fine hair and I’ve tried backcombing and taking the tongs to the ponytail but it just looks silly and not right at all. How are they doing it? My ponytail just looks thin and rubbish. There must be a solution! I don’t expect a Kate Middleton type of bountiful, lovely pony but just a bit of oumph possibly!?

A lot of people do have naturally thick hair.
Some of them have extensions.
Salt spray helps me a bit.

Hmm, thanks for the ideas. My main problem is my hair is so fine, thin and poker straight. I will give the salt spray a try, I think.

Your sleek pony tail is what I aspire to! I do have think hair, but whenever I put my hair back in a ponytail I always look like I have been dragged through a hedge backwards.

I have been doing no 3 (teasing at the front/sides) exactly that way for many many years, and I get a lot of compliments on it - funny considering how little hair I actually have. Try it OP.

I have naturally thick long hair, in its natural state its out to my shoulders but straightened and in a pony looks sleek and full. I'm Italian so we're are hairy folk!

However I do sometimes think how much cooler it would be to not have so much hair!
