What is your best charity shop find?

Was having a browse earlier and saw a gorgeous vintage Burberry coat for £10. Unfortunately it was miles too big for me and would've dragged on the floor if I bought it. I got very excited though as this was the best find I've had at a charity shop so far!

What is your best charity shop find/bargain?

I'm wearing two of mine today! A lovely Mint Velvet dress which still cost me a fiver, still unworn, paired with a navy LK Bennett jacket that was £6.

KimchiLaLa · 22/07/2019 14:40

Used to find some great bits when I lived in a very affluent part of London. Gucci purse for £10 which I walked away from, only to go back and find it had already sold. YSL sunglasses for £10 in a suburban store. Unfortunately now the ones near me are full of complete tat.

PajamasnoDramas · 22/07/2019 18:20

Fabulous 50s/60s blue lurex cocktail dress for about £3 about 20 years ago. Still in wardrobe but won’t be worn again.

Vintagegoth · 22/07/2019 18:23

Tripp Trapp chair for £8

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 22/07/2019 18:27

Our local shopping precinct has tonnes of charity shops but never anything in them despite being in a good area. I often go to Henley or Marlow but have never found anything decent in a charity shop.
My sister volunteers in an age concern shop and used to get some good stuff. She would pay full price but lovely Boden duffel coats for the dc and Boden or joules clothing.
Literally nothing for years but last week she got a seasalt coat that was too small for her so she gave it to me.

Tryingtogetitright · 22/07/2019 18:30

I bought a "Postcard from Brighton" top today. Not a brand I've heard of but it was unworn with the tags on - £54 new, I paid £2! Think I'll wear it a lot in the summer. And a brand new bag, tags still on, £3. My favourite is a local charity shop where nothing's more than £3.

PinkBuffalo · 22/07/2019 18:55

dobby I'm actually in an incredibly deprived seaside town! I'm fairly sure this particular charity shop gets the goods elsewhere imported and sells them here. We have people come from all over for a bargain Smile

NotAgainKen · 22/07/2019 18:57

absolutely pristine 3 piece Stag bedroom suite complete with the original glass on the dressing table. Not quite a steal but I was glad the money went to the local hospice rather than an antique dealer.

Goatrider · 22/07/2019 19:06

These days it's mostly tat in the shops near me.

When I was a teen (80s) I thought I was very cool with my short spiky hair and oversized men's Harris Tweed coat. Don't know how much it was, probably 50p

DobbyTheHouseElk · 22/07/2019 19:10

PinkBuffalo does it begin with a ‘w’. If so it’s near me and I’ve heard of it. But never found anything there.

optimisticpessimist01 · 22/07/2019 20:43

Wow I think I need to branch out more!

I live in Sheffield, they all just seem to have Primark clothes in. If anyone has any Sheffield charity shop recommendations please let me know!

A lovely thick Reiss sweater for £8, looked brand new.

PinkBuffalo · 22/07/2019 21:41

I'm intrigued dobby about the W! No W I'm afraid!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 22/07/2019 21:47

Oh no worries PinkBuffalo.

It’s a town near to me that supposed to have an amazing charity shop. But I’ve never been lucky. It’s a really deprived run down seaside town. But it’s a ‘w’. So no good!

BikeRunSki · 22/07/2019 21:50

@optimisticpessimist01, when I lived in Sheffield, the charity shops of Broomhill and Eccelsall Rd were always worth a visit.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 22/07/2019 21:54

A pair of black (beautiful soft gorgeous) leather Louboutin ankle boots, in a Size 6, sadly I think they were a US size 6 so they did not fit me or dd, but her friend loves me to this day!

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 22/07/2019 21:55

oh British Heart Foundation and £7.50

TeaAddict235 · 22/07/2019 21:58

@BikeRunSki Broomhill is very upmarket now with all those students. that Oxfam up there is also unaffordable. Try crookes and further afield if you can.

claracluck78 · 22/07/2019 22:08

I've had some amazing finds

9ct gold necklace for £2 that I sold for £150
Garnet and gold suite of jewellery I sold for over £100
Three 1950s glasses I bought for £15. I sold two on eBay for £90 and decided to keep the third

Hobbs suit for £10 with all tags still on. That's a £250 suit - I just need to drop 2 sizes to wear it!

Rainbowknickers · 22/07/2019 22:14

Guess handbag-£5

Hull city hat and scarf set (sons a huge fan for some reason) £1
School uniform for the following year (3 jumpers 3 shirts 3 trousers) 50p each

Radley purse-£3
Chanel perfume-50p

We also kitted out our whole house for around £200 buying everything from charity shops-a billy bookcase for a fiver and our tv cabinet for £3 2 sofas for £20 etc

GibbonLover · 23/07/2019 02:46

A lilac leather Louis Vuitton wristband - 50p. Sold on Ebay for £120 Shock

evilharpy · 23/07/2019 10:13

I have loads.

All Saints leather jacket for £15
Coach bag for about a fiver
Brand new Modalu bag for a tenner
Lots of other good leather bags, everything from Hobbs to Radley to M&S
Nicole Farhi and Paul Smith trousers for a fiver each
Lots and lots of things from places like Jigsaw, Max Mara, Hugo Boss, LK Bennett, Hobbs, Hush, Karen Millen etc. I got an amazing leopard print coat from Karen Millen for next to nothing
Multiple pairs of brand new shoes from Russell & Bromley, Moda in Pelle, Kurt Geiger, LK Bennett
Calvin Klein sunglasses for a pound
Lovely Ted Baker coat for £8

I've seen Mulberry bags that weren't to my taste so I didn't buy them. And various sunglasses, there's a nice pair by Burberry in a local charity shop at the moment but they wouldn't suit me.

Our local charity shops are not dirt cheap, very rarely is anything £1 or £2, but they do tend to have great quality stuff.

Also house stuff including original paintings for £1 and a beautiful teak sideboard for £10.

Notquiteagandt · 25/07/2019 14:59

Traid charity shops in london are good. They have pound sales and clear whole store out. They also get alot of stores sending their samples there.

Got a cashmere alexander mcqueen sweater £1, and so much more cant remember.

But best was a brand new gold seal sample lamb skin jacket for £5 had tiny mark on it I got off with miceller water (top tip its fab on leather marks!) Saw it yr afters aw collection as the finished item selling for £750..!!!

CoolCarrie · 25/07/2019 15:38

Lovely Daks jacket for dh, Joseph trousers in a velvet / rubbery material, full length velvet coat by Biba all around £20 .

CoolCarrie · 25/07/2019 15:41

One of my friends used to always comment about how she would never buy charity shop stuff, but after seeing the bargains that can be found, especially for her children, she is converted!
