Stylish, smart & comfy black heels - do they exist?

I need some black shoes to wear for a formal event so need to be smart but also comfy as I might be standing a lot and also suitable for the warm weather.

If cooler, I’d wear ankle boots. If informal I’d wear sandals or wedges. Seems like my only option is black court shoes but I’d like something comfy.

I tend not to do chunky heels but maybe that’s what I need?

Whatever I buy, I figure I can use for work anyway.

I have a few pairs, from Clarks, Boden and Marks & Spencer.

I am good in heels so don’t find it hard to wear a range of heel styles/heights (although at 43 my feet are starting to protest so I’ll probably start winding it down soon), but when I’m in the mood for a comfy pair the brands I’ve mentioned above are good.

My all time favourite high but comfortable pair was from Clarks, the style was called babble brook. They don’t do it now but this is similar:

I’ve also got a pair from Boden which I love, I don’t know if they’re doing anything similar right now. Have attached a photo.

I would recommend having a look at M&S. Their leather shoes are quite good looking if you pick well, pretty good quality and not too pricey, and their ‘insolia’ soles really are very comfortable.

Or you could do a Duchess of Cambridge and go for a wedge...

(Depending on your definition of stylish and smart)

Do they have to be black?

I quite like these:

Again, it’s hard to know what you would say is smart and stylish...

Jimmy choo are the comfiest heels I have ever worn, and I’ve worn plenty!

ElspethFlashman · 21/07/2019 13:43

Agree Clarks or M+S are your first two ports of call here.

Ninkaninus · 21/07/2019 13:47

Also depends on what type of formal event, and what you’re going to wear.

Would any of these work?

They didn’t have the ones you posted @Ninkaninus but I think the ones you linked are better!

Are these ones a bit frumpy? 🙄🤔

I’m mid 30s...

For a smart shoe I would usually for for a mid to high pointed stiletto shoe 👠

I don’t usually go for a chunky heel but these might be ok for when I want to be more comfy but don’t want to wear flats 🥿

They do need to be black this time yes and I don’t want open toed or wedges.

Will have to try Jimmy Choos @Funghi!

They’re fine! Low block heels are quite current anyway, but I also don’t really believe in frumpy shoes (unless you’re actually buying them out of the Sunday supplements). I wear lots of shoes that could be considered frumpy, but my attitude says anything but. I’m sure they’ll look great.

Thank you 😊
