Help me find a second-hand bag... [Edited by MNHQ]

I am looking for a proper good sized shoulder bag, more for out and about with the DCs, water bottle compartment, in fact several compartments if possible, currently I have an ethnic fabric bottomless pit.
I saw this in JL and I like this kind of print (Orla Keilly, Scandi type stuff, also some Cath Kidston) and it looks about the right size too, plus not leather is a bonus, but I'm really hoping not to buy new (price plus environment).
Any ideas of what I might like?

Maybe have a scroll through eBay?

drspouse · 21/07/2019 09:11

I have clearly but there are hundreds of thousands of bags obviously! I'm hoping people can share the bags they have like my wish list.

Aaargh I have been browsing and now I want ALL THE BAGS.
If you have a good sized oilcloth bag e.g. Cath Kidston, do you find the bag itself quite heavy?

Oilcloth isn’t heavy. I have a big CK carry all bag that is easy to carry and fits so much.

You could look at Longchamp Le Pliage bags. All their current bags in that style are block colours, I think, but a year or two ago they did some pretty prints. Their bags are very light, very roomy and practically indestructible as far as I’ve heard.

Ninkaninus · 21/07/2019 12:03

The Le Pliage won’t have compartments though. But I think you can buy organisers for them. Anyway there is usually lots of CK and similar on eBay (although not all are genuine).

drspouse · 21/07/2019 12:26

Some of the CK have outside pockets that look useful.

I love a good size bag too, that can hold a whole lot of stuff.I can never find a bag with enough pockets, that is why i start making my own. I love orla kiely fabric I've used her fabric quite a few times for my bags. You might want to check etsy. You may find something there to suit your needs.

Look on eBay for Mia tui bags - all vegan leather, lots of pockets.

drspouse · 22/07/2019 11:24

I'm pretty sure that I don't want vegan leather - I don't want real leather due to the weight/look of it so I imagine vegan leather will look similar and be a similar weight.

OP posts:
Ninkaninus · 22/07/2019 11:35

Vegan leather is just plastic.

drspouse · 22/07/2019 12:05

I suspected as much - no thanks!

It’s much lighter than leather though. So it’s not a bad option. But it will typically show wear a lot sooner than coated cotton would. CK is a good option.

Have you checked CK website as they probably have a sale on atm.

slipperyeel · 22/07/2019 12:16

A Kipling bag could be just the thing - they are very light and washable and tend to have lots of pockets. If you get one second hand and wash it it’s likely to come up like new.

I have one of these and they are amazing, I don’t use it much to be honest as I like something that looks a bit more stylish but for practicality you can’t beat it.

drspouse · 22/07/2019 12:56

I'm afraid my DM has a Kipling and I am just put off by that - also as far as I can see the outer pockets are all zipped so not that good for water bottles or the Essential Thing The DCs Need Right Now.

@Ninkaninus agree that coated cotton may be the way to go but I'm really after a second hand one, though there are usually masses on Ebay!

(I'm already turning into my mum, no need to accelerate that!)

Yes there will be loads on there and you might be able to find an orla keily one too.

Cheap and great quality. I picked up on I a charity shop and love it just as much as my Le Pliage

notatwork · 22/07/2019 14:08

Just got a CK on eBay! Nice bird print and looks useful. We will see!

Have you joined a FaceBook group such as Exclusively Mulberry or one of the many others? It's quite a safe way to buy an authentic preloved bag.

drspouse · 23/07/2019 11:28

I'm not that high end thankfully for my budget!
