is Charlotte Tilbury overrated?

I just dont get all the accolade. I absolutely love my lip gloss and the matt one even though the wand is awkward but, the foundation? Goodness me i wish Id never bought it but i was at the airport and needed one the coverage is no better than my cheap NYX one, the tinted moisturiser type. The CT ordinary lipstick is hardly there i was told it was a rich coral but i have to apply it three times to get it to show any colour. For thise prices. I think i will save my money and stick to Mac (who arent as good as they used be either)

I don't get the love, either - I've had samples of the mascara, perfume (yuck) and lipstick and pretty disappointing. Came with purchase of an eye shadow stick that was a bit meh and TERRIBLE to sharpen and the nib broke loads. She/the brand seems to have a LOT of friends in PR and massive marketing budget as the praise and coverage for a decidedly average range of products is baffling.

MoveOnTheCards · 20/07/2019 14:02

Same. I was gifted a load of CT stuff and find it all overrated. Hate the mascara, clumpy and end up all under my eyes after a few hours, eye make-up a bit meh (and oily so doesn’t stay put) and the lipstick coverage patchy.

Blankspace4 · 20/07/2019 14:03

Im using the foundation and it’s on a par with the Lancôme one I usually use at the moment. Potentially doesn’t give the coverage / protection from oil breakthrough later in the day though.

The pillow talk lipliner is nice too. It is pricey though.

Blankspace4 · 20/07/2019 14:04

....however as far as I’m aware it’s independently owned so it’s quite nice to support that vs the huge conglomerates though.

EachandEveryone · 20/07/2019 14:11

I know but shes best friends with KM etc so she is getting loads of free/cheap PR and it wont be a one woman show for long.

I have a few things and quite like them but that pillow talk lipstick that’s supposed to suit everyone looked awful on me

Sparklyring · 20/07/2019 16:04

I love the colour chameleon eyeshadow pencils, I wear Dark Pearl as my daily eyeliner. It's a gorgeous colour and lasts all day without needing a top up. I wear Secret Salma as my daily lipstick, lovely colour and hydrating. The eyes to mesmerise are lovely creamy eyeshadows too, lasted all day on my wedding day. One make trial I had used the foundation and it was horrendous, so cakey and thick. Not my cup of tea at all.

Cerseilannisterinthesnow · 20/07/2019 16:37

I have the pop blusher and love it

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 20/07/2019 17:50

I think it is.

The look the brand is famous for is the overly Instagram look, and it's been done to death and because of that it just looks ubiquitous and try hard.

And the lipstick names are so cringeworthy, Fabulous So And So, Brilliant Such and Such...

ZazieTheCat · 20/07/2019 18:45

Over rated and over priced.

Titsywoo · 20/07/2019 18:49

I love the eyebrow pencil. The Rita shade is the perfect colour for me and it just goes on really well (thick slanted pencil that's not too hard). Not tried anything else but it's worth the money for that particular item.

usersouthcoast · 20/07/2019 18:49

I think it is overrated personally, but I also have friends who always have immaculate makeup, some use brands like CT, others primark.
I think it's all in the skill of applying the makeup, and knowing what works for you

Itishottoday · 20/07/2019 20:56

I did not rate it at all. I prefer Mac and Nars. It smells odd too?

Sarcelle · 20/07/2019 21:19

Hit and miss. The Pillow Talk shade that is meant to suit all makes me look like a corpse. The concealer not great.

I do like the Hollywood Filter and the Blusher in Love Glow.

user1471465525 · 20/07/2019 21:35

Love the Hollywood liquid lips ,they stay put all day but everything else yes overrated.

happygiraffey · 20/07/2019 21:40

I think it's a very overrated brand, I was disappointed with the products I tried. I think it's substandard compared to the other brands of similar prices you see on the same kind of makeup counters in shops

namechangeninjaevervigilant · 20/07/2019 21:47

I agree OP. Overrated, overpriced. It’s all nice enough in itself but no better than budget or mid priced brands you can buy in Boots or Superdrug.

If I was offered a choice of being given a gift box of CT or NYX/CYO/ Sleek I would take one of the cheaper brands every time. Better textures, better longevity, equally good pigmentation, more fashionable shades and I don’t feel like I’m being mugged off when I use them.

FredaFox · 20/07/2019 21:47

Overrated, spent a lot on an eyeshadow palette at Christmas, barely use it, just not nice to use, I usually treat myself to high end brands but fee l CT is a waste

BenWillbondsPants · 20/07/2019 22:02

Depends I think. I like the lipstick and eyeshadow pallette I recently bought, but not CT foundations. I'm not keen on CT mascara either.

XingMing · 20/07/2019 22:16

Beauty Pie's Rummy Pink lip liner is, I am told, a great dupe for CT Pillow Talk. Having never bought a CT product, I can say that the BPie crayon is awesome for my colouring.

bingowingsmcgee · 20/07/2019 23:57

It's shit

Unburnished · 21/07/2019 04:49

Over-hyped and over-priced.

Ive tried a few things but ive been disappointed. The magic cream (£70) was just like any other and all the colours make you look like youve been burned theyre so red-toned.

Unburnished · 21/07/2019 04:50

Beauty Pie do a dupe of the face palette and it only costs £7.

Housewife2010 · 21/07/2019 08:05

I have the Beauty Pie dupe and the CT face palette. I hardly ever use the BP dupe because there is no deeper eyeshadow for definition and it is even smaller than the CT one so it is harder to use your brushes in the face products. I always take the CT one away when I travel.

Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives123 · 22/07/2019 10:53

Definitely over-priced, and over-rated, but saying that I do use the eye shadow palette, it's the only one I use as it's highly pigmented and stays put all day. I went back to my UD palette once and realised just how pigmented CT was. I do love the Pillow Talk lipstick, but when it's done I'll be trying the beauty pie dupe, as it is too expensive for all it is, and staying power isn't great.
