If you wanted to treat yourself to some good make up, what brands and products would you get? I am late 30s for reference

My fave is Bobbi Brown. Also like Urban Decay, MAC, Estée Lauder, Lancôme, Stila.

It depends what you want and what your style is but a few things I like:

I like mineral foundation - love Laura Mercier and Laura Geller

Liquid foundations - Laura Mercier

Powder - Laura Mercier

Concealer - I love the Armani under eye corrector (liquid) and the Make Up Forever HD concealer (liquid)

Mascara - tbh I’m not fussy. Mac, Benefit do some good ones but Maybelline are good too

Blusher and bronzer - nars and benefit. Benefit do face palettes from time to time

LOVE Hourglass face powders and blusher and highlighter

Love urban decay, too faced and nars for eyeshadow

I really like Gurlain Meteorites

If you go to somewhere like John Lewis you could try some things out

My favourites are Bobbi Brown, Nars, Chanel and Hourglass powders. I’m mid thirties and really notice a difference when I use more expensive makeup.

val4 · 19/07/2019 21:25

Favourite is Charlotte Tilbury...expensive but when I wear it I'm always told that my skin looks great...I'm 47!

Itssosunnyout · 19/07/2019 21:42

Nars is my go to but recently tried hourglass and I'd say it's better than any other luxury brand I've tried before.

Isleepinahedgefund · 19/07/2019 22:05

Totally depends, what works for one may not work for another. I've tried pretty much every brand on the market!

Hourglass is my favourite lux brand.

Tbh though I've got just as much inexpensive /drugstore makeup that's fab and often better than high end - costing £££ is a red herring as far as I'm concerned. Focus on good products not particular brands.

Miseryisabutterfly · 20/07/2019 00:31

I like benefit for primer, lip tint, mascara, eyebrow stuff and bronzer/blush... Mac for lipstick and Vichy dermablend compact foundation (I have some scarring and it covers well).

Miseryisabutterfly · 20/07/2019 00:32

Oh and urban decay for eyeshadow. Love the heat palette

bingohandjob · 20/07/2019 05:10

For base, powder and eye base and shadow products, I really rate the quality, application, colour and longevity of Laura Mercier. Love Glossier Boybrow, just wish the tube lasted longer. Love Becca blushers and since using one in Snapdragon get compliments all the time about how good my skin looks. I love a whole range of lipsticks - YSL, No 7, Illamasqua, Revlon - I'm not particularly loyal to lipstick brands as personally I've found they're the thing you reapply the most and the item I change my look with the most so flip between shades and finishes.

ZaraW · 20/07/2019 07:23

IT Cosmetics, Milk makeup and Rituel de Fille (Sp)

disappointed101 · 20/07/2019 08:48

Wow thanks so much for all these suggestions! Will make a trip to John Lewis

If I was going to John Lewis and had to pick one brand I'd go Bobbi Brown as well.

EnidButton · 20/07/2019 13:43

Bobbi Brown, Chanel, Lancôme, Dior, Urban Decay.

I don't stick to one brand as it depends on the product. I like Chanel for lipsticks, Dior for mascara, Lancôme for foundation, Nars for concealer etc

But Bobbi Brown is probably my most purchased as they're reliable and consistently good. I don't like their lipsticks personally, but everything else is very nice and easy to work with as they go for the "you but better" kind of look.

Ninkaninus · 20/07/2019 14:49

I have heard very good things about Marc Jacobs lipsticks. I’m scared to try in case I love it! Also want to try Tom Ford and maybe Charlotte Tilbury.

ZazieTheCat · 20/07/2019 19:22

Chantecaille. Ere Perez. Pretty much anything by them.

As one offs, another vote for Glossier Boybrow. Pixi Lip Icing is pretty nice too.

Nanasueathome · 20/07/2019 19:23

Hourglass
