Has anyone bought from this online site?

Has anyone bought from chiclondondressbuy dot com?

There was a Coast dress I wanted but nowhere had my size apart from this store. I've ordered it but now I'm panicking that it might be a fake site! Sad

Have I been scammed?!

Hi Tooty. I haven't but just had a quick look at the website and I must admit that first impressions aren't good. The website design is incredibly basic and the English is very poor which makes me think that it's a scam website. Also every review appears to be 5/5. It also seems to be a brand new website.
What method of payment did you use?

Tootytata · 19/07/2019 07:21

Ah damn it...I used a debit card Sad

I don't have a credit card. Wish I used my husband's credit card to order now.

I'm hoping I'll get my dress. If not, I'll call my bank and see what they can do for me.

I’ve just looked too, not a secure site and 500 reviews on each item?!

Tootytata · 19/07/2019 10:32

I'm usually quite careful with online shopping. It was late and I really wanted that dress Sad

Looks like I might have to speak to my bank soon. They've sent me an email confirming payment and confirmed that I'll receive a dispatch email when my dress has been shipped. If they were scamming me, why bother sending further emails? Hmm

I'll wait a week and see what happens!

Phone your bank just now and see what they can do.

coconuttelegraph · 19/07/2019 10:39

Oh dear, that site has fake written all over it.

Contact your bank asap and see if you can get your money back

ReturnofSaturn · 19/07/2019 11:08

There's no way I would ever have bought anything from that site!! Just looked and it's got fake website written all over it!!

babysharkah · 19/07/2019 11:12

Doesn't look good at all. I just had a quick look and it says you can cancel before dispatch though. Whether or not they would honour that is a different thing...

Please email us ASAP. You could cancel the order before the item being dispatched. When your order has been shipped out, we will be unable to cancel it. If you cancel your order with us, you must return any Products received at your cost. Besides, Once an order has been canceled, it cannot be reactivated.

Tootytata · 19/07/2019 14:53

They've not actually taken any money out of my account yet. I ordered it yesterday - can the bank still do something if the money hasn't been taken?

I feel so stupid. Why did I think this was legitimate? Blush

Tootytata · 19/07/2019 15:19

Spoke to my bank. They said in the event that I don't receive the goods or the goods are not as described then they'll open an investigation and give me my money back. Love my bank! Smile

ShmooBooMoo · 19/07/2019 15:28

I think you should have instructed your bank to cancel the payment and, more importantly, your card. I wouldn't wait a week. I'd do it now, no matter how much you want the dress.

ShmooBooMoo · 19/07/2019 15:30

Did you actually tell the bank the site was not secure? If yes, I'm astounded by their flippant response.

Hadalifeonce · 19/07/2019 15:34

It might not be a fake site, but the clothes are probably rip offs, and made in China with no labels or care instructions, and be of poor quality. They will take ages to arrive and you won't be able to return them.
If you can stop the payment I would recommend doing that.

BloomedAgain · 19/07/2019 15:39

I think you should cancel your card

balonzz · 19/07/2019 15:45

You need to cancel the card today. I ordered something from a site that I didn't realise was dodgy until it was all too late. I got my item but they got my identity and access to my bank details. They used my card in different parts of the World for a while. Ring the bank and hopefully you'll get your new card by Wednesday or before - they're generally pretty quick with this.

Tootytata · 19/07/2019 15:53

Balonzz - omg! They stole your identity?! I didn't realise it was that serious. Ok, I'm gonna call my bank again and cancel my card.

OP posts:
Tootytata · 19/07/2019 15:55

Actually I'm waiting for a refund from another company so I can't cancel it until I get that refund right? Ahh...why did I do this?!

OP posts:
ThorosOfMyr · 19/07/2019 15:59

Just phone your bank. That site is super dodgy. Also all companies have to display a postal address for contact by law to trade online. There's no address here. Plus as PP said the English is terrible. Was there a secure padlock sign when you paid? Please learn from this. Never use your debit card online and only purchase from known reputable companies.

ShmooBooMoo · 19/07/2019 16:42

Just explain to the bank about the refund due from the other company. It will be fine. Your priority is to get that card cancelled. Other stuff can be sorted later.

ShmooBooMoo · 19/07/2019 16:45

My friend was advised to join this after a similar incident:

www.cifas.org.uk/services/identity-protection/protective-registration

I think it's £25 but if someone tries to use your identity, for example to hire a car, extra checks will be done and the fraudster thwarted in their attempts.

Tootytata · 19/07/2019 17:05

Thanks everyone. I called my bank again and spoke to the fraud department. They have now cancelled my card. I feel relieved!

The original amount I spent on the website has been authorised so that payment can't be stopped but if I don't receive the item or if the item is not as described then I can get a refund from my bank.

OP posts:
Tootytata · 19/07/2019 17:06

Shmooboomoo - thanks for this. I'll register when I get my new card details!

OP posts:
ShmooBooMoo · 19/07/2019 18:31

You're welcome, Tootytata. Glad you got it sorted with your bank. If you go to the site I linked to earlier in the thread there is a phone number you can call for advice:

www.cifas.org.uk/contact-us

As they say on their site, you can also call Action Fraud if it turns out that you have been the victim of a scam:
If you have been the victim of identity theft or a scam, please report this to your financial services provider and Action Fraud. Action Fraud is the UK's national fraud and internet crime reporting centre. Please visit their website, or call them on 0300 123 2040.

I think, in the future, if you pay by credit card (and you can always pay it off straight away) you can get the money back from your bank if anything like this happens again.

Drogosnextwife · 20/07/2019 23:02

You will still get your refund from the other company if you cancel the card you have.

Wattagoose90 · 17/01/2020 17:18

@Tootytata just wondering did your purchase ever turn up and if so was it counterfeit? Found a dress I love but only available on this site but obviously doesn't look genuine at all! I've done a Google search to see and your post came up, so just wondering how it all panned out!
