Awful brassy hair - help!

Just saw myself in a well-lit mirror and my hair... terrible! It is almost gleaming in places and orangey. Coupled with the dark roots things are not looking good. At all.

I have been using Touch Up on my dark blonde hair for a long time. Should I go for a proper colour instead of highlights? Can I solve the problem at home (£££ a consideration) or bite the bullet and go to a salon?

Purple shampoo. Doesn't even need to be am expensive one. It works miracles after a couple of uses.

I've never heard of that.

What about colour going forward? Should I try an all-over colour?

Touch of silver shampoo will help with that

Purple shampoo is for yellow hair. It wont touch orange. You need blue shampoo to tone down orange and even the best blue shampoo in the world is only going to do so much.

I've never heard of touch up but if you've been lightening you're own roots at home you probably need a full on colour correction at a decent salon. I wouldn't attempt to do it at home. You need an experienced colourist.

Purple shampoo should do it - leave it on for longer for more toning.

If you Google there are tonnes around nowadays. I use the bleach London one (actually I'm using the pearlescent one at the moment which is lovely but you need very light hair) but their silver shampoo is really good.

But people also recommend Fudge and also Fanola I think its called?

But I agree with Frequency that if its orange rather than just brassy yellow, it might actually need further lightening as well as toning.

Can you post a photo of the colour? Then we can see if purple shampoo will help or not. Brassy yellow it will. If your hair is actually orange. Not so much
