tween flower girl dresses

Hello,

Anyone got any ideas where I can get a chic (but not cotton or linen) dress for a tween for a summer wedding in Italy? She's an average height slim 12 now but will be 13 so I'm thinking either age 14 or so or even XS/S adult. In the vein of Ghost or Wild & Gorgeous (which is now in admin I think)?
I don't want it to be too bridesmaid-y, but it has to be in a kind of muted pastel colour palette. But not too prom or gypsy wedding! Help please?

@bruffin that's lovely thanks, and totally in the right sort of style, but it stops at age 13. I think it will be too small. Appreciate it though. Monsoon a good shout, also I guess Ghost adults dresses come up pretty small. She might have grown 3 inches in a year, it's really hard to know!

plus Italian wedding in summer, will be scorching so i want her to be cool (but not allowed cotton/linen!)

thank you! I love the third one best but again it stops at age 13 (she's not far off 13 so it will prob be too small next year), but again totally on the right lines.

I'm thinking Ghost S or XS might actually work for a tween too?
(I don't work for Ghost btw). I looked at Next but all a bit too prom or sparkly. I want elegant, sweet, daytime but made or georgette or silk or similar.

could also be a jumpsuit...

Leave it until nearer the time: keep checking the sites as they'll have a whole new range by next year.

But if she's 12 now, and verging on 14 then, remember she could go through all kinds of puberty between now and then - what looks good now might not by the wedding!

lovely ideas, thank you @rbe78, and you are exactly right, she's more slim tween now but anything could happen with puberty. I will hold off living vicariously ;)

If she's anything like mine was at that age, she isn't going to take kindly to wearing a 'little girl' dress in a teen size and something she tolerates now will be viewed as seriously yuk and uncool in a year's time.

Have you actually broached the subject with her yet?

@ContactLight yes, good point, we've discussed, but she knows it's a family wedding and she's a flower girl so she's on board with it all. But noted, absolutely. She doesn't want to look like a babyish or too 'girly' teen, so we will work with the dress code for something hopefully a bit more chic for next year. Thank you.

her current style is kind of 90's cool/Brandy Melville (I know!), so she would hate anything too twee and ruffly.

It doesn’t need to be a’flower girl ’ dress, my 13 yr old would never wear them. 13 is a bit old to be a flower girl, mine is a bridesmaid next year, she’s too tall to be lumped in with little kids.

At 13 a size 6 ladies might work better - try quiz, Debenhams etc

thanks all - you're right - veering away from traditional flower girl etc and will look at size 6/8 women's next year. Also maybe a very chic trouser or jumpsuit could work.

it's just made me realise there's a bit of a gap in the market for this sort of age group - but I suppose next step is prom, so maybe not. it's not as if they often need 'formal' wear...

Every dress suggested here is for girls under 10, all twee & cute. Look at casual bridesmaid dresses in a small size, doesn’t even need to be a dress for a wedding. Personally the suggestions here are too childish, I feel sorry for 13yr olds whose mothers would dress them like this.

thank you @Bookworm4, yep I've noted that and have changed my mind about a twee/little girl dress. Please don't feel sorry for my daughter, she cchooses all her own clothes just as she'll be choosing her outfit with me whatever happens. i just wanted pointers really as it's quite a tricky age to dress for a wedding. I also don't like anything too grown up so it's quite a niche market.

As a 13 year old I would have died and gone to heaven for a dress like these - and it wasn’t too long ago! Really depends on the child.

I'll see how she feels next summer - she's actually choosing to wear dresses again after refusing since she was about 6, so who knows
