hairdye that lasts on white hair

Please please can you help me find a dye that will last more than a week on my pure white roots. It's not grey it's bright white and against my natural dark hair it's obvious.
I've had white hair since I was in my twenties and I keep having to dye it every 4 to 6 weeks but having to use a spray to cover it after even a week of dyeing it.
I have tried to get it done professionaly many many times but it's the same thing, it washes out..it can't be that my hair grows that fast ad I barely ever have to have it cut beyond the usual tiny trim to keep it looking healthy.
I'd prefer a box dye as like I said I've used the salon and I end up paying 5 times the amount for the same result

Honestly I would go for highlights so it's less noticeable.

Isitmeorhimthistime · 16/07/2019 19:48

I have highlights but it's still noticeable. I just don't get why the dye won't hold onto the white roots but the rest of my hair holds it fine

From experience it won't.
If you've tried Salon colour then a box dye will be no better I'm afraid.
You either have highlights as suggested or keep dyeing every 3 to 4 weeks, or grow it out.

I have exactly the same problem, it's torture!

Proteinshakesandovieshat · 17/07/2019 14:16

I have the same problem. Some grey/white hair just doesnt seem to take dye for long.

I dye mine and also use root spray. If not I need to dye every 2 weeks.

Just how it is. It's that or go lighter so the contrast isnt as obvious.

Isitmeorhimthistime · 18/07/2019 19:51

I already have highlights as I've said, I can try and go a bit lighter but I have Olive skin and black eyebrows and lashes so I can't go too light!
I go through so much root spray it's ridiculous Sad

I have just dyed mine back after trying out natural grey.My natural grey has a shock of pure white along my hairline yet the rest is mixed with warm brown and so looks murky. My roots are noticeable within a week because pure white next to dark just is..

The solution I have is to use Majirel with 20 or 30 vol creme peroxide and do it all over once a month. In between this I use a fine make up brush and do the noticeable bits at the front once a week-mixing up a tiny quantity. Majirel doesn't seem to trash my hair either and you can mix up just what you need.

I bet it's not the dye washing off, it's just regrowth. I need to dye hair every 2 weeks because it's thay grey but the dye is not washing off. It's inoa btw.

Proteinshakesandovieshat · 18/07/2019 20:02

OP how long do you leave between colouring and washing?

I find my colour lasts better if I dont wash it for at least three days after colouring.

nevernotstruggling · 18/07/2019 20:30

Joining for wisdom. I have the same issue. The dying tiny amounts with a mane brush though.....loving this idea!!!

permanent ones i have found good Nice n Easy Age Defy or Colour Excellence with a sort of olaplex thing included. This with spray root touch up when needed.

Also you need to stick to neutral or ash tones as anything warm doesn't cover as well.

Good Luck

Watching with interest. Jack Monroe put a tip on Instagram I think which I copied:

Exactly that. Use the Schwarzkopf Live that comes in the squeezy oil-paint tubes (about £4) - you can dilute a quarter of it with a bottle of your regular conditioner and use as a top up when you wash your hair. Regrowth is practically invisible and it refreshes all-over colour

I'm not sure if you're still supposed to use the activation cream. I've tried it tonight and I don't think it's worked. Mind you, I must be at least 15 years older than her.

noseynelly · 25/07/2019 13:44

it's definitely not regrowth, may hair can't grow 2 inches in a week it takes absolutely forever to grow longer.
I will try the tips thanks.
I do find the olaplex one lasts a couple of weeks longer but again not long enough
