How long does a bottle perfume last you?

Might seem a daft question but I'm wondering how long a bottle of perfume/eau de toilette you?

My dh buys me a bottle at Christmas, last year was Sisley Eau tropical. Not started it yet. I bought a Marc Jacobs in June 2018 I'm still using and still have a Chrismas Gucci from 9 years ago half used.
I generally have a spray in the morning, more if go out and that's it. Do you carry it in handbags and reapply?
Just wondering as seems to last me ages and I'm usually sick of it long before used up.

I use it so fast - but yes I apply 2 or 3 times a day,
I have a few jo malones which I can layer so I don't get used to the smell too quick.
Don't think I have every had a bottle last longer than 8 months

Perfume doesn’t last long for me. Spray in the morning then chuck in handbag and spray throughout the day. Probably very wasteful but it makes me feel good Smile

chipsandgin · 15/07/2019 19:44

I thought the general rule was that they go bad after 3 years, especially if opened? Most of mine last a year or two, I tend to have three on the go (otherwise I get used to them & can’t smell them as well).

Richlyfruited · 15/07/2019 20:45

Don't think I've ever used a bottle up! I either get sick of them and give away or sell on eBay. I always store in a cool place in a box when not wearing and they will last for years!

Cerseilannisterinthesnow · 16/07/2019 08:43

Yep I’ve got too many to mention but I keep them in the their boxes out of direct sunlight and they still smell good years later!

Maykid · 16/07/2019 08:47

I’ve got one bottle that must be 10 years old at least and still smells perfect.

Teddybear45 · 16/07/2019 08:49

Depends on the perfume. Chanel number 5, 50ml bottle took me 5 years to finish as you only need a little and the scent often clings to clothes even after washing.

BlueMerchant · 16/07/2019 08:51

50ml bottle edp lasts about a year.
Strong perfumes (Mugler/someDior) last about 18 months even in a smaller 25ml/30ml bottle.
I use on a morning 4/5 times a week.
Don't carry it in my bag to re-spray.

EmilyC82 · 16/07/2019 08:51

I have several perfume bottles and they usually last for at least 1 year. I'm not such a fan of perfumes, so it takes some time to finish them.

I have a bottle of Mary Quant Havoc which dates from the 70s. I haven't actually used it for decades but it smells as good as it ever did.

woodhill · 16/07/2019 14:36

Mine take ages to use. Usually spray morning then later in the day. I have more than 1 on the go

ExpletiveDelighted · 16/07/2019 15:55

I've never finished one, I have a chuck out every few years. One squirt in the morning, I've never taken them out and about.

wichitalinemanswoman · 16/07/2019 16:26

I never finish. I get sick of them and sell on eBay or give away. I'd love to find one that was my signature but after going through zillions I don't think I ever will

puppymouse · 16/07/2019 18:57

I wear Chanel Allure EDP. Get it for Christmas every year. I reckon I get through about 100-150ml a year. I wear it every day - twice if I'm going out.

JaceLancs · 17/07/2019 08:53

Never had a problem with perfume going off and I have lots of different ones - as I alternate them all the time I rarely finish a bottle!

About a year usually have 2 or 3 on the go at a time.

15 yo DD1 about a week Grin

BertrandRussell · 17/07/2019 09:02

6 months almost exactly. I know because my mil gives it to me for Christmas and for my summer birthday.

AnnieOH1 · 17/07/2019 09:17

Blush My favourite perfume even a 100ml EDP only lasts me about 6-8 weeks in regular use. I have about 6 different perfumes on the go right now but I know they'll only last me a year at best (they're mostly 50ml). I put it on as I get dressed, then spray a little more before leaving the house. Depending on where I'm going and how long I'm going to be I spray on arrival. And at lunch time (even though I use setting sprays so no longer touch up my makeup). I'll spray again when I get home after I've got changed for evening. And I spray again when I get into my nightclothes. Blush

Bluejeantreefrog · 17/07/2019 21:16

Thanks for your replys I've tried to find a signature perfume too but usually get fed up . There's a couple I do really like and wear more frequently than others but still lasts ages!

I've got bottles that are more than 20 years old, and they still smell as they should. I don't use scent very often any more though as I've just got out of the habit. I've always kept them in their original boxes and in a dark cool drawer though, so I suspect that's helped. I find the ones that have faded are the cheap dupes. The originals that I have, by Guerlain and Issey Miyake and the like, are still glorious.
