I'm going in a few days and I'll have a whole day I can go shopping! I'm less interested in the beauty stuff, but very happy to pick up new clothes or accessories if there are any essential stores anyone can recommend. Madewell is my first stop.

DVF wrap dresses are usually much cheaper there.

Everlane is great for basics. They’re mostly online but have a shop in NYC if that’s where you’ll be.

Do they have Athleta in the UK yet? If not I’m a fan of them also. It’s the fitness line from the owners of Gap. I’m tall with a large
chest and their clothes fit and support better than anything else I’ve tried.

I love Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus.

edgeofheaven · 15/07/2019 06:21

Oh yes Nordstrom is also great for bra/underwear shopping.

I got my entire work wardrobe from a banana republic outlet shop, jackets, blouses, trousers etc all for $200. Much cheaper than the UK. I also like Ann Taylor, Black Market/White House (I think it's called) and my MIL loves Chicos.

I don't generally find things any cheaper but really like the clothes in Loft, which is everywhere in the US and you don't find at all in Europe. Also, I'm quite partial to a trip round Sephora. Be aware though, the exchange rate is poor so you might not be grabbing armfuls of bargains.

chemenger · 15/07/2019 12:47

To find bargains at the moment you need to find outlet stores. Loft is excellent for summer clothes in cotton, at the moment, lots of fine cotton shirts and jersey dresses. Uniqlo is cheaper here, I think. J. crew outlets are very good. Full price stores are more expensive than the UK in general because of the exchange rate. Even if you aren’t in to make up and beauty a walk round Sephora is interesting, the shops are lovely. In my experience any female between 15 and 25 will give you a shopping list for Sephora! Sketchers are marginally cheaper here, I think. For the most part the shops are much the same as the UK. One thing I have noticed is that department stores have a much bigger selection of formal dresses, so if you are looking for an evening dress or prom dress, that may be worth doing here.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm planning out a route on Google maps. It's more selection I'm looking for. I'm not in the UK so a lot of American stores are a pain for returns so I don't really bother.
