Help please! Size 12...smart/casual afternoon party outfit

You'd think it'd be easy! I've recently lost 2.5 stone and am now a size 12 from a 16-18 (meaning my wardrobe is pretty empty). I've got an hourglass figure (size 12 is always loose around the waist) and carry the bulk of my weight around my stomach, hips and backside. I'm also short which doesn't help.

I'm going to a work event next weekend where the dress code is smart/casual. I want to look good, but without looking like I've made too much of an effort if you know what I mean. I'm also due my period the day before which means my stomach will be nicely bloated as well. Great! Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you so much in advance.

I should probably add that I'm mid 30s.

I got a lovely navy jumpsuit in h&m yesterday. The v neck is a bit too deep for my boobs so I got a hot pink vest for under it. Would be lovely for your kind of event and I'm a similar shape to you.

You are my size !!! I really like paper bag skirts (or trousers or shorts!) Paired with a sucky in style bodysuit... sucked in tummy but eyes are drawn to skinny bit (your waist)

This is my go to confidence boosting outfit :)

Ps well done on the weightloss

Thank you, they're both great ideas.

I also second the nice skirt with tucked in top.
I have the same proportions as you and a tucked in plain top with a skirt always draws attention to my small waist (rather than the not so small hips!).
Oasis do great skirts. I would go with a skirt, black or white top and maybe some flatforms because they’ll give you a bit of height without hurting like wedges.

I'd go for a dress. I always find it a bit of a faff 'making' an outfit - tops - etc especially if it's a new dress. And a dress should be comfy. One with a waist, to show off your new shape!

What kind of an event is it? I find otherstories handy for that kind of thing. And their dresses are very wearable after the event.
Warehouse can be good too.

Thank you. I've ordered a few different bits: a couple of dresses, and a few different tops to go with one of a couple of skirts I already have. What I find really difficult is believing I am smaller than I used to be and finding the courage to wear different style clothes. First world problems!!

They should be arriving tomorrow so everything crossed!!
