Has anyone stopped dying their grey roots and grown it out?

I'm about 80% or more grey and have shoulder length hair which I've dyed a sort of mid dark ashy brown for years. I"m sick of it and think that my skin tone must have altered and I'll look better with lighter hair now.

I want to stop dying the roots and let it grow out to its natural grey, cut most of it off into a bob or shorter and have it dyed blonder.

I can't afford to go and have it all stripped and dyed at the moment and it's in such bad condition that I think I need to start over.

The thought of looking like that is offputting though...a big grey stripe at the roots! I could wear hats I suppose but gosh...am I crazy to consider it?

I tried and have redyed mine as it looked a bit shit. However it was worth doing only to know there was no treasure lurking beneath in my case. I am not blessed with a good grey yet.

I used to have highlights but stopped as it couldn't cover the grey and I was paying £££ for them. Best thing I ever did. Doing it that way I managed to avoid the badger look. Maybe try and blend with highlights for a bit first.

I was only 38 when I stopped and now look like I have (a lot!) of silver highlights and get lots of compliments. It's liberating not to have to dye it.

I may regret this...

Born blonde, grew up mouse, dyed chestnut through 20s and 30s, now au naturelle. I quite like it except it always looks flat in pictures and it really isn't. Ah well, it is what it is...

Went cold turkey over a year ago. Overnight developed attitude that I couldn't care less what other people thought about it & stuck to my guns.

Suits my skin tone.

Get loads of compliments.

Have saved a fortune.

Wished I did it years ago.
