I’m going to have my teeth fixed, anyone did it and now have their confidence back ?

I have finally taken the plunge and I’m so exited. I’m feeling so unconfident because of them. Anyone did and feel it was the best thing they did for themselves? It is going to cost a lot of money, I have been wanting to do it for years. Would love to hear from people who did the same ! Thank you :)

I've just had braces put on. I'm 46. I have one tooth missing at the front as it didn't grow and one misshapen one at the front which will then be pulled out. Then the two canines will be ground down and the gaps filled so they are squared off. My bottom teeth are a bit crooked. I have two very wonky teeth that are surprisingly sore. Just twingey so it's all soup and mashed potatoes! I'm a mixture of excited and fed up with not being able to comfort eat because I'm sad my teeth hurt! I wasn't allowed braces when I was a child.
It's the last reminder of my abusive parents. I absolutely hate my teeth. It's going to cost just under £5k all in. I feel a bit selfish but my low self esteem needs it.

I hate the dentist putting their hands in my mouth. Also I didn't realise that my mouth would taste of metal. But still worth it.

I’m 9 weeks into having Cfast braces. There’s a big difference already

Oops didn’t crop that before posting but I’m rally pleased with how my teeth have moved in a short space of time

Amibeingdaft81 · 15/07/2019 18:33

I’m getting compostites (like veneers) on 8 at top and 6 at bottom.

All in - £5k

So excited!

I had mine done! Started with fixed braces so I wouldn’t be tempted to take them off, then four weeks of Invisalign type braces before they shaped and bonded them.

I have braces on the back to stop them moving but since then I’ve removed the bottom brace and let my teeth move back to their prebrace position as I didn’t like how they felt, they moved all the time and my tongue/food would get stuck or nip. I’ve kept the top brace though and given that it’s only really my top teeth you see I’m still really happy.

Anyone have them done in London? I had a brace in my teens but they have moved.

gotmychocolateimgood · 15/07/2019 19:32

I saved up for years for invisalign. Best thing I ever did for my confidence. I have kicked my snack habit too! Totally worth it as my smile is so much better now.

CalamBalam · 15/07/2019 19:47

@PrettyPretty that's impressive progress for 9 weeks. How long is the treatment expected to last?

CalamBalam · 15/07/2019 19:49

@DefinatelyAWeeGobshite, with the bonding do they just 'glue' some ceramic onto the ends of your existing teeth to lengthen them? Your teeth look fab.

LesserBohemian · 15/07/2019 20:01

I finished Invisalign two years ago and am pretty happy with my straight teeth as I had a twisted snaggletooth. Unfortunately the retaining wire on the back I find difficult to clean properly and straightening my front teeth has opened a slight gap between them that sometimes whistles! I wasn’t prepared to pay more to extend the treatment and fix it as I’d had enough at that point.

But... it does make me now want to go a step further and have the bonding to change the shape of my teeth. I realised what I don’t like about them is also the pointed shape. But I’m terrified of what they described about the shaping! How did you find it @DefinatelyAWeeGobshite ?

boredboredboredboredbored · 15/07/2019 20:07

My 4 front adult teeth came through chipped and crooked. I had a wire brace as a child but they slipped. I've always hated them and felt so self conscious. Anyway after getting divorced 3 years ago I decided to see a dentist. He advised me to have them whitened & the front 4 veneered. I paid 2.5k but I'm separate chunks as I went through treatment. It's changed my life! I went on a first date with my now fiancé, his first words were what fab teeth!! I haven't got any before photos to hand but see the after. They are very natural and you'd never guess

@gotmychocolateimgood I thought you said SMACK habit, I was Shock haha

@CalamBalam thank you! Yeah the bonding is like the composite they use for fillings so they add it to the ends then buff them all down so they’re straight.

Lesser the bonding part was fine, no worse than when they file in between your teeth in between appointments if you had that done, it takes a while but it’s worth it to shape them all. My top left teeth grew out slightly so when I was eating then never naturally wore down as they should, so it was always really pointed and as soon as my teeth were straightened it was the first tooth I asked to be filed down.

I spent almost £9k on my teeth 8 years ago, it's still the best money I've ever spent. I had fluorosis as a child and consequently my adult teeth came through mottled, pitted and stained brown in places. I endured years of name calling at school, and as soon as I was 18 I had 6 crowns and two veneers fitted.

These lasted really well until pregnancy when my gums bled profusely and shrank back, then I broke a veneer and realised it was time to sort them out again.

I spent a total of 30+ hours in the chair (and I bloody hate dentists!!) but £9k, gum surgery and 10 brand new crowns later my smile is still my best asset Grin I've had them for over 8 years now and I still get compliments about my amazing teeth! Sometimes I own up that their not really my own, sometimes not!

CalamBalam · 15/07/2019 20:34

I think it's great that we're taking a more American approach to our teeth. After all they sit right in the middle of our face! For so long people were told that it doesn't matter what they look like as long as they're functional.

gotmychocolateimgood · 15/07/2019 20:41

Haha, no smack habit here! 😂

It's amazing what a difference good teeth can make to your confidence. I also look after them better now, I've been lucky Hever to have dental problems but I take more time brushing and flossing than before my braces.

CalamBalam · 15/07/2019 20:45

@boredboredboredboredbored, your fiance is right, you do have fab teeth! And yes, very natural. Makes me wonder why so many celebs go for such obviously fake looking veneers.

FlowersInThePot · 23/10/2019 18:03

How are everyone's teeth doing 3 months down the line!!!
