Do you wear slips?

Hello everyone

And...
Do they improve the look of your outfits?
Are they comfortable?
Which brands do and don't you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

They’re only worth it if they are silk. If you get the cheap ones from M&S you end up overheating and your gorges end up more clingy than they would have been without.

CherryPavlova · 15/07/2019 07:23

I agree JL does a good range but silk is best to stop static cling. Stops itching from woollen dresses in winter, adds warmth too.
Stops underwear lines and just smooths things and allows a proper drape. Also a confidence thing when wearing a tie wrap dress.

Ooo, I'm going to investigate the couple of links pps have given. I have a couple of lined skirts which I love but have never considered a slip. My mum used to make me wear them underneath summer dresses in primary school but they were horrible polyester things which created static and really were not comfortable.

@LifeOfBox - Grin - Outside the bare leg season it’s second nature to me most of the time and I’ve never fallen down the stairs at work yet! If l did, l’d have bigger things to worry about. It might hurt ....

Tights stay up better that way too.

YesQueen · 15/07/2019 10:41

Sold Grin never worn them but ordered a couple for under work dresses and a slightly see through pencil skirt I have
Went for black and nude

M&S cooling slip shorts are lovely - wore them under my wedding dress a couple of weeks ago.
If you've a sewing machine simple slip skirts are very easy to run up, I've done that a couple of times too. Prefer the shorts for comfort though.

Skyejuly · 15/07/2019 10:47

I'm 32 and recently started wearing them.

Stardustmoon · 15/07/2019 11:16

I now want a slip....

BrennieGirl · 15/07/2019 13:27

Has anyone ever managed to find a warmer slip for winter? Maybe not so bare at the back. I wear my usual slips in the winter but they don't keep you properly warm.

Does anyone have good eBay links to silk ones?

Namechangerextraordinaire1 · 15/07/2019 18:09

I bought my very first one last week. I felt like an absolute granny, but I bought a dress for a wedding at the very last minute and realised it was completely see through, nude underwear showed up as really dark and white underwear was also very obvious, so it was an emergency life saver. It did make the dress hang better and I'd probably wear it next time I wear the dress, otherejse I'm not a convert

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 15/07/2019 21:27

I have black white and nude waist slips from M&S. I wear them under unlined dresses. I am 50 but have always worn slips under anything that would otherwise be a bit see through....

woodhill · 15/07/2019 21:33

I was grateful for a slip on holiday. Midi Dresses and skirts with those large button fronts tend to be a bit gapey on me. I like them

BadnessInTheFolds · 20/07/2019 17:27

@LifeofBox thank you!

This whole thread has been very illuminating Grin

*Goes shopping for silk slips

CadburysTastesVileNow · 21/07/2019 15:25

I
Am desperate for a bra slip. All I can find are the body shaper / smoother type which make me feel hot and squashed just looking at them. Would pay lots for a pure silk or at least breathable long slip with cups in, but no amount of internet surfing has revealed anything g except a too short Charnos one that is mostly out of stock

thenightsky · 21/07/2019 15:30

Cadbury You mean something like this ?

CadburysTastesVileNow · 27/07/2019 12:13

Yep but with bra cups in

Maybe I could get a dressmaker to build a bra in??
