What to wear under a slightly short dress?

I've bought a dress which has arrived and it's mid thigh short - not a disaster but slightly shorter than what I'd usually wear. What can I wear underneath to protect my modesty?? Big pants? Some sort of shorts? Leggings?

Maybe shorts that fit like bicycle shorts? Like what they sometimes wear under tennis dresses? Colour coordinate it so it looks like part of the outfit.

Personally, I would not go for anything that short.

Unless you are going to wear opaque tights (but, hey, it’s summer), l honestly think if you are not comfortable with the length, it’s best to return it and look for another dress.

That is unless you want to be bold and where your pretiest knickers!

Big pants and confidence!

hazandduck · 13/07/2019 07:09

Agree with @unbalancedBella, it’s all about the confidence!

SinglePringle · 13/07/2019 07:12

Knickers. Mid thigh isn’t particularly short. I just wear knickers that cover the whole of my arse, rather than a thong!

Personita · 13/07/2019 07:34

Running shorts are good for that - short enough to not be seen under the dress but big enough you don't have to worry about flashing anything.

GrassIsntGreener · 13/07/2019 07:42

I wear cycling/running shorts under any dress. Good ones help smooth the tummy, stop my thighs rubbing and protect against any modesty mishaps!

StarlightLady · 13/07/2019 07:49

I think any form of shorts underneath it would just look as if you don’t have the confidence for it. I still think, knickers as suggested by @SinglePringle or a different dress.

As I type I'm wearing a mid-thigh dress and I have the M&S anti-chafe cool comfort shorts on underneath. They are incredible not just for solving any rubbing issues but also for a bit of extra cover.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 13/07/2019 09:42

Depends on the shape. You could try Capri pants if it's tunic length. But be brave if you've got the legs for it!

RedForShort · 13/07/2019 09:47

I just wear a pair of knickers usually (but not thing nor French).

I'd normally opt for dark coloured ones. Unless the dress is so light it needs white ones.

Floisme · 13/07/2019 09:57

I would send it back while you still can. When women wear dresses they feel are too short they always look incredibly uncomfortable. Instead of noticing how nice they look, all you see is the surreptitious tugging. And I agree that shorts just draw even more attention.

Aragog · 13/07/2019 10:06

I just wear thin short leggings under slightly shorter dresses. I buy cheap ones as they are thinner and therefore cooler. I find running ones a bit too warm.

I wouldn't go without personally as I work in a school with little children and spend a lot of time getting up and down from low surfaces or the floor.

Athrawes · 13/07/2019 10:57

There must be a market for frilly legged bloomers for this sort of thing. Something covering but a bit saucy if seen!

tierraJ · 13/07/2019 11:30

Either wear normal knickers & wear it with confidence or send it back.
