Can this coat be made smaller?

I have reached an age where I am going to quite a lot of funerals. I've been searching for a dark, stylish but lightweight coat for ages and have just found one I really love. The problem is it is 3 sizes too big!

Do you think I could have it altered to fit me?

Or, does anyone know where I can get something very similar?

Do you own it already? I'd take it to a dressmaker and ask them. It's hard to tell from a photo, and even harder without having you wearing it in front of me. What's your budget for alterations? A couple of extra darts at the waist won't cost a fortune, but if the entire thing needs to be resized (ie taken apart and scaled down and fitted to you properly before being re-sewn) I'd charge you more than I would if I was making a coat from scratch (as there's double the work - taking it apart properly takes time).

Have you asked if any local dressmakers can make you a coat in the right size? You'd get exactly what you wanted.

Hi, yes I've just been recommended a local dressmaker since posting this. I may well ask her to make one for me. It has taken ages to find something that is right. The idea is that that coat covers all seasons. I have a lovely coat but I wore it to a funeral last week and was baking. Lightweight, 'summer' coats seem to be basically trench coat or mac style which isn't what I want.

I will be seeing the DM tomorrow.
