Advice needed on the sizing of an All Saints Jacket

I purchased an All Saints Estella Leather Jacket on Saturday ( Birthday Present) I tried it on in store and the size 6 fitted perfectly the size 4 was snug.

The lovely assistant advised going for the smaller size as they stretch. I purchased the smaller size but I'm having doubts, I am a size 6 in most high street stores but have never ever worn a 4!

Do they stretch and if so how much and over how long a time?

The jacket is too expensive to sit in the wardrobe unworn but I'm really worried I've purchased the wrong size, it fits ok and doesn't look to small but feels snug, I'm worried I look like I'm trying to squeeze into my daughters clothes?

Any help or advice at all is really appreciated.
Thank you

get the bigger size!

I think the criteria for the fit of a leather jacket goes slightly against what we generally look for in the correct size of jacket. I personally don't think you should be looking to do it up comfortably, it's a style statement not a practical weather choice. I also don't think you should be looking to wear bulky layers under, just a t-shirt or slim fitting sweatshirt for example. So in that sense, going for the slimmest fit you can makes sense.

But It still needs to fit on the shoulders, and if you can't move your arms up, down and across easily, or it looks too short in length, or you can't zip it up at all, then it's probably too small.

Thank you nitgel, I think I'm going to order the larger size online this morning and look at both together, I've been going backward and forwards since Sunday.

chasing seagulls Thank you, you're right, I am planning on just wearing light clothing underneath it, it fits on the shoulders, arms etc and has plenty of space in it but I can't help feeling it looks a fraction too small overall. I am going to order the larger one this morning, I'm just really worried if it stretches too much it will be too big as it was a perfect fit in store.

They do stretch, by quite a bit actually.

I go for s size down, or at least as snug as I can possibly get them.

evilharpy · 10/07/2019 10:41

They do stretch, and I think they come up big too. I tried on a load in store and comfortably fitted in an 8 - I'm a 10-12 in real life. The one I actually own is a 10 and could really do with being a size smaller.

Frazzlerock · 10/07/2019 10:44

I've got an All Saints Milne leather jacket in a size 12. I'm normally a size 10-12 on top and it is very snug across my back. I was expecting it to be slightly loose if anything! So I'd say go for larger size

Verite1 · 10/07/2019 12:51

I got a whistles leather jacket in size 10 (my normal size). It has stretched. I still like it but wish I had bought the 8.

kaytees · 10/07/2019 12:58

They do stretch a bit I reckon - I'm generally a size 14 these days and have 2 size 12 jackets that have seen me through 2 pregnancies too. Well worth the investment even if you do decide to buy the bigger size!

It’s not just All Saints jackets, it’s leather in general.

Skirts will often end up about a size bigger than they were.

I think Chasing has good advice, OP. I've been eyeing AS Bales up since Christmas so I can pounce as soon as it has ANY DISCOUNT WHATSOEVER! I've tried it on in store lots of times and every staff member has told me to size down. It's snug but I've been assured they have lots of give especially in the arms. I've even watched YouTube ladies who give advice when buying a leather jacket and it's consistent with them.

Whatever you do OP I hope this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship with you and your jacket Grin

ThatCurlyGirl · 10/07/2019 16:03

In All Saints I tend to be the upper end of the "mixed sizing" you get elsewhere.

So if I'm usually a 10-12 I'd opt for the 12 at All Saints because even if it stretches in size a little, the fit is less likely to change

e.g a swing tee won't suddenly become if it shrinks or too a close fitting / boxy one if it stretches.

mumtoadancer · 10/07/2019 19:06

Thank you very much for every ones comments, I'm still confused, all the reviews say size down but several people are saying go for the larger one.
I have ordered the larger size today for delivery tomorrow, hopefully seeing them both side by side will help.

I have several from AllSaints and always buy my true size.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 10/07/2019 20:45

I wouldn't size down - my oldest is three years old and hasn't stretched at all.

toffee1000 · 11/07/2019 00:17

I have my eye on an All Saints jacket. Online it talks about S, M, L rather than specific numbers. I’m a 12 normally, and medium is for 10-12. Small is 6-8, there’s no way I’d fit one of those, even if I slimmed down to a 10 as I hope to do eventually.

Ninkaninus · 11/07/2019 11:51

Yes I’m sure it dies depend on where you fall on the sizing.
