Does this dress flatter my figure?

I am considering wearing this as a wedding guest outfit soon.

I think I like it but makes me look a bit square and boxy, what do we think? I don't think I have the figure to pull it off quite frankly.

And what shoes/accessories would you pair with it?

Does this dress flatter my figure?

I think the halterneck neckline always is a bit tricky to be honest.

Pipandmum · 08/07/2019 15:38

I think it looks nice! I’d put a red belt on it and red shoes or red bag (not both). And please no exposed bra straps (I realise you are just trying the dress on in the pic).

Hoppinggreen · 08/07/2019 15:39

Most of it does suit your (lovely) figure but I think the neckline makes your shoulders look quite broad

followthefairytalexx · 08/07/2019 15:42

Thankyou @Pipandmum and @hoppinggreen. I am about 5’11 so sadly my shoulders are just broad in general but I see what you mean.

I think it looks lovely x

MadisonAvenue · 08/07/2019 15:48

It’s a lovely dress but I think it’s let down by the halter neck making you look broad shouldered.
I’m quite broad shouldered and avoid halter necks as they just accentuate my shoulders rather than disguise them.

Hoppinggreen · 08/07/2019 15:49

I don’t think it would make them look as broad once you ditch the bra straps
Im not as tall as you but I’ve got broad shoulders too, I love halter necks but they aren’t the best on me

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 08/07/2019 15:49

I always think halternecks only tend to be flattering if you have very narrow shoulders. That said it doesn't look awful, if you wanted to wear it you definitely could, but you've got a lovely figure and I'm sure there are dresses out there that would suit you so much better.

championquartz · 08/07/2019 15:55

Jeez I think it’s lovely.
I also think you could wear a binbag and look great.

Are you stealth-boasting??Grin

peachgreen · 08/07/2019 15:57

Yes, the halterneck doesn't suit you - and you have such a lovely figure it's a shame not to wear something that really makes the most of your shape.

followthefairytalexx · 08/07/2019 16:02

I dont know what stealth boasting is but Im not boasting. Im seriously not a fan of my figure but I appreciate the comments I didn't even consider the halterneck making my shoulders look broad so thankyou for the feedback!

Agree that whilst the shape of the dress is lovely and you have a great figure, the halter neck is unflattering and makes your shoulders look too broad and out of proportion. I’m very slim and also can’t make a halter look good so I feel you pain. I vote for finding another dress with a different neckline.

ginghamtablecloths · 08/07/2019 16:05

How over critical we women are when we look at ourselves! It looks fine and you carry it off very well. Wear it and enjoy the wedding.

meuh · 08/07/2019 16:06

I think it looks great on you! Nothing wrong with your shoulders.

Floisme · 08/07/2019 16:25

I like it too. In fact I've no idea with what some people are seeing here. But then I like broad shoulders.

notangelinajolie · 08/07/2019 16:31

It is lovely. But I think the reason you think it makes you look boxy (it doesn't by the way) is because you are tall and so perhaps it's not meant to be above the knee.

NameChangeNugget · 08/07/2019 16:33

You and the dress, look great OP.

Go for it

medusawashere · 08/07/2019 16:34

Your figure is amazing! The dress flatters your waistline as well.

MikeUniformMike · 08/07/2019 16:36

It's a nice dress and you have a nice figure with a waist. It would look nicer if it wasn't halter neck

Spookydot · 08/07/2019 16:39

I think you look fantastic. (Once the bra straps have gone)
You don’t look broad at all, with your lovely nipped in slim waist, you look great.
I think you could pick any bold colour for shoes/accessories, maybe if it’s a summer wedding: yellow, bright green pink or coral.
Autumn/winter wedding red, burgundy or gold.

wheresmymojo · 08/07/2019 16:42

I agree with PP - the dress itself looks lovely and you've got a great figure but I don't think a halter neck is flattering to broad shoulders.

It's the halterneck aspect that is giving the perspective of it being a bit boxy (not your figure).

wheresmymojo · 08/07/2019 16:48

I can't post a photo as at my limit today but if you google 'necklines to suit broad shoulders' and look at 'images' it has some good options:

  • Square
  • Scoop
  • Sweetheart
  • Boat
  • V neck

To avoid:

  • Bardot
  • Puffed sleeves especially around shoulders
  • Strappy tops
  • Halternecks
VenusTiger · 08/07/2019 16:50

I personally don’t like black in the summer, especially day time... looks lovely on you though... maybe get a bolero style cardigan and wear some wedges or high sandals to summer it up a bit

Floisme · 08/07/2019 16:56

What on earth is wrong with broad shoulders?
It's not even as if they're that broad. The op is tall - they're just in proportion.

If I was going to nitpick I would say it could be a fraction longer. This has nothing to do with your legs, I just think the skirt looks a tiny bit out of proportion, as if it's been chopped off marginally too soon. But it's a very small thing.

BlueMerchant · 08/07/2019 16:57

I think the hemline style is supposed to sit below the knee and I think it would look more 'dressy' a touch longer. (Realise there's nothing you can do bout thisGrin).
I like the neckline.
I'd pair that dress with a black or white bag and some statement/colourful shoes.
