Do you have 'good' makeup and 'standard' makeup?

You know, nice makeup that you reserve for special occasions (because it's too fucking expensive for everyday use!) and your bog standard inexpensive makeup for everyday use. I have ordered some M.A.C and Charlotte Tilbury makeup to treat myself and wondering if I should still keep my Rimmel etc make up for events that aren't that important. Is this weird? I'm new to taking better care of my appearance so don't know what's the norm!

I have everyday drugstore make up and then I have fancy clinique blusher, urban decay eyeshadows, highlighters and eyebrow pomade for special occasions/going out out. I combine my everyday face with my fancy stuff if I'm feeling fancy!

growlingbear · 06/07/2019 22:54

Definitely not. Make up has a shelf life. Buy good stuff but use it every day until it's used up. it lasts for ages anyway. I wear make up every day and still only replace things because they dry out never because they are finished.

RuggyPeg · 06/07/2019 23:04

Nope. Life is short. Use the good stuff, which isn't necessarily the most expensive stuff - just the stuff you like and makes you feel great.

WalkAwaySugarbear · 06/07/2019 23:08

No. I only have cheapish brands, maybelline, rimmel and Revlon usually.

wiltingflower · 06/07/2019 23:09

I think I know what you mean about having a heirarchy for make up! I do this with setting spray only because it tends to go quite quickly so I want to save it. With the rest of my make up though, I find firm favourites and use them daily. I'm lucky in that I haven't found anything too expensive for everyday yet. For special occasions it just means I wear slightly more make up than normal days e.g highlighter, foundation and eyeliner rather than just eyebrows, mascara, lipstick and blush.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 06/07/2019 23:12

No.

What’s the point, it will only go bad.

YesQueen · 06/07/2019 23:14

Nope. I use products I love whether they're cheap or expensive if that makes sense!
So if the expensive mascara is the absolute best I've tried. I'm using that every single day

CakeNinja · 06/07/2019 23:24

No. Just stuff I like.
Currently 2 foundations on the go, hourglass vanish and Chanel vitalumiere Aqua. Have stopped using Doublewear because it’s slightly too light for when I have a bit of a tan.
I only wear a smidge per day, definitely not a 3 pumps a day girl at all, i sheer it out as don’t like the heavy makeup look.
Don’t see any point in having multiple amounts of stuff - it has a shelf life and will
Start to separate and split etc when it gets old and I know I wouldn’t get through bottles of the stuff in a year so just buy and wear what I know I love.

I have ELDW as my 'going out' foundation and the Primark dupe version as my everyday one. It's very good for about a fiver.

NigellasGuest · 06/07/2019 23:31

I use the same makeup whether it's a special occasion or not. I just apply it more carefully if it's for "best", e.g. layer my foundation and wait longer between each stage. For normal days I often dont bother with eyeliner or other bits, but I dont have cheap versions. If I decide to wear my eyeliner on a "normal" day , then it's the bobbi brown one. A lot of my makeup is expensive but certain things aren't, it's a matter of what works for me. And yes it goes off, so no point hiding it away in the back of a drawer.

AProblemHasOccured · 07/07/2019 00:13

That makes sense! Thanks for all the responses.

No, absolutely not. Use the good makeup. Why would you have cheaper stuff for everyday? Most of life is everyday. If I only used the good stuff for fancy occasions it would end up off before it was finished.

TheRLodger · 07/07/2019 00:26

Yes I do! I have crappy stuff for everyday. And then nice urban decay benefit for special occasions although if I know the gorgeous sales guy is coming in to work then I might wear the nice make up BlushWink

DickZillaofTheVilla · 07/07/2019 00:30

Yes I do this and am really guilty of not using up my nicer stuff then

Ivegotthree · 07/07/2019 00:34

I have expensive make up for all the above reasons which I use every day (at work, not weekends).

But for parties I will crack open my special effects stuff eg special white liner for the inside of my eyes etc

Danglingmod · 07/07/2019 05:47

I wear more make up for special occasions, not different.

Only exception is I don't put on the ELDW foundation or mascara if I'm going out briefly and likely to take the whole lot off when I get it. The point of DW is its staying power which is not always needed!

whatswithtodaytoday · 07/07/2019 05:49

Nope, I use the good stuff all the time. It goes off, better to use it up!

RoseReally · 07/07/2019 06:01

I do this with foundation, started when I was on mat leave. But I'm yet to find anything 'cheap' thst comes close to my Bobbi Brown. I'm very pale and the cheaper ones are never quite pale enough and the texture isn't as nice. I have the Boots Hydraluminous foundation, recommended by Sali Hughes recently. It's ok.
