Any suggestions for a daytime lounge suit dress code?

Hello! I'm going to an event (daytime) at DHs work soon with our 8 month old baby, and the dress code is lounge suit. Most of my dresses are currently in storage, and those that are in my wardrobe are either too casual or too warm.
Any ideas for anything suitable that's in the shops at the moment? I'm a size 12, pear shaped, and prefer knee or calf length. Needs a robust neck line as baby likes to hang off it! I couldn't breastfeed so don't have to worry about that at least.
Heading to the shops tomorrow, but I need a plan! I've seen one I like in m and s, but not sure if it is too casual? www.marksandspencer.com/diamond-print-shirt-midi-dress/p/p60282951?image=SD_01_T42_8249_Q8_X_EC_90&color=SOFTBROWNMIX&prevPage=plp

Would ‘lounge suit’ dress code not need something more formal? Genuinely unsure as my husband has been to these events and worn a suit with a tie. I’m wondering if it’s a bit more dressy?

Imicola · 30/06/2019 21:49

Yes I think you are right as if it is evening I think it is cocktail dress. Perhaps I just need to go and look in phase eight or somewhere that has lots of smart dresses. Something between smart work wear and something you might wear to a wedding?!

I’d say something you’d wear to work for a smart day or a good dress or jump suit - I wouldn’t go as far as a cocktail dress, it doesn’t need to be that formal unless you want it to be

BubblesBuddy · 30/06/2019 22:20

It’s a daytime event with a baby. What has a cocktail dress got to do with it?

OP - you just need a nice dress. That one is fine. A decent bag and great hair and make up will help. I quite like the bright blue midi dress M&S have with flowers on it. It’s a bit more up to date for a younger mum!

Presumably the female peers of your husband will be in workwear so i think that's too casual. Does anything in the reiss sale catch your eye?

BubblesBuddy · 30/06/2019 22:28

I’m attaching a few M&S ones. Plus a jump suit.

I give up!!!

@shylo Don't worry, I won't be looking for a cocktail dress! Just thinking that I need to be smart for the daytime equivalent!
@eurochick DH doesn't have many female colleagues, and most of his colleagues will be in uniform, while he'll be wearing a suit. I'm not sure if it's be able to get to a Reiss this week.
@bubblebuddy the blue one is nice, I will look out for that in the shops! The others I am not sure would suit me as I don't have a particularly defined waist, so I might end up looking frumpy.

Buy online via John Lewis they do a £6.95 next day delivery or free if over £30 ( I think ) to Waitrose. I have decided it's about what parking would cost! They have tons of stuff from all different brands and it's free returns. M& S have similar postage costs for overnight. I once ordered something just before midnight and got next day! I do think cocktail would be wrong but debretts says "For daytime events women should wear a day dress, trouser suit, or skirt and jacket or coat."

Gustavo1 · 01/07/2019 09:52

That blue one is nice. Very smart but dressy too.

NigellasGuest · 01/07/2019 11:26

Loungewear if in the day means cocktail dress but not sleeveless

NigellasGuest · 01/07/2019 11:27

Sorry, lounge suit not loungewear!

stucknoue · 01/07/2019 11:36

A modest summer dress and smart cardigan is fine (nothing too sun dressy) I have one from next I bought a few weeks ago, knee length and quite high necked, two layers. Wear with smart sandals or shoes depending on weather and personal preference

Imicola · 01/07/2019 14:33

How this? The invite says wear comfy shoes which is lucky as my only blue shoes are the comfy ones!
