Long overnight flight - recommendations on outfit!

Rarely go long haul holidays but booked a special one for a big birthday. It's 2 x 7 hour flights (only a couple of hours in between). Business class - once in a life time treat.

Any suggestions on what to wear that would be smart, comfortable and not look like I've slept in my clothes?

I certainly wouldn't woryy about being smart. Wear whatever you want and either take a tracksuit/leggings and top to change into to sleep or depending on the airline use the sleepsuit they supply. Where is the flight to and what are the timings because with time difference etc they may not both be considered night flights so you may not get a sleep suit on both flights.

coffeeforone · 30/06/2019 12:34

TBH think I'd change (at least my top) at the end of the second flight if I wanted to look smart on arrival, or change my outfit if there is a huge climate change at the final destination

minesasaugagesupper · 30/06/2019 12:35

Bring lounging clothes in your hand luggage and get changed after take off. Change back just before landing. No other way :)

rosesandcashmere · 30/06/2019 12:38

I take leggings and a black longline vest top in my handbag and change into it on the plane kind of like pyjamas then change back to get off. I would keep it on in the middle of 2 x 7 hours x

stucknoue · 30/06/2019 13:13

Jersey material dress is best, leggings for the flight with tights to change into

Cazziebo · 30/06/2019 13:39

Thanks everyone! It's Emirates to Thailand via Dubai so no sleep suit. I hadn't thought about getting changed on board. Great idea.

Both legs have night flights (departing at 1am and 00.50)

I do similar flights often & change just after takeoff into leggings, vest with built in bra & a hoodie, then switch back before landing. You will have room to store shoes & hang your clothes.

You can always have a shower in the Emirates business lounge in Dubai between connections. I almost always shower in the lounge at Dubai. Perks me up a bit and kills some time.

I usually travel in a jersey dress and leather leggings. Then the leggings come off just before we land and I'm ready for a warm climate.

donutrehomer · 30/06/2019 15:07

I used to organise a pair of leggings, vest, undies into a large make up bag. On long haul, or just a long travelling day I would have two. Then used to put them into my hand luggage, you can really squish all the air out make it really small. I only travel around UK for work now, but I still do it. I loathe having that clammy travel feeling x ps take a large pashmina, doubles as a blanket or pillow x

Izabelus · 30/06/2019 15:28

I did similar flights before (not the business class though!) and my best option was to wear 100% silk trousers (nice and comfy) from COS and a top (and then obviously layers as it can get a bit chilly on a flight overnight). As someone above recommended, a couple of tops to change to! Maybe some nice socks when and if you fall asleep!

lilpumpsmum · 30/06/2019 15:34

I got a couple of jersey loungey suits from Zara recently. Really comfy and look good enough to travel in teamed with smart trainers or flats

I'd echo the lounge wear to change into onboard.

When I've traveled for work I usually have business casual attire on for the airport / lounges due to the chance of running into colleagues / customers.

When travelling for holiday I usually go for a shirt / jersey dress and heels / wedges

I braid my hair and put on minimal makeup, then I have dry shampoo / deodorant / makeup in hand luggage.

Change into lounge wear and flight socks after take off, usually with a jumper since I get really cold on board. Remove all make up and get a good moisturiser on, then eat, sleep and drink my way through the flight (eye mask and ear plugs work wonders - my record's a solid 6 hours in business 😆).

Dress back on with sandals, braids out and freshened up with dry shampoo. Makeup on and teeth cleaned and I'm like a new woman at the other end Wink

RockNRollNerd · 30/06/2019 19:38

I tend to travel in something like these www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0562498011.html with plain black t-shirt, long black cardi and black sandals.

If I'm going Emirates then I take a second set of everything (including knickers and bra) and have a shower in the lounge at Dubai so I'm fresh again for the next flight. The showers in the Business Lounge at Dubai are great and never very busy so you can have as long a shower as you like. The hairdryers are a bit crap though.

I take slippers like these in my hand luggage as well www.amazon.co.uk/Ladies-Fleece-Ballerina-Slippers-Satin/dp/B0062Y4HMU?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_4&tag=mumsnetforu03-21 and put them on with my flight socks once I'm on the plane. There's plenty storage in Business Class for the sandals/shoes I'm travelling in.

Cazziebo · 30/06/2019 20:43

Thanks - so many great ideas there. I'll have a look out for some nice leggings and a baggy top to wear with a cardigan, and a dress for leaving and arriving. Love the idea of the slippers!

In all the flights I've been on I've never seen anyone get changed on the flight but guess that's because there's no room in the economy loos! I am so looking forward to this!

We did the same last summer - once in a lifetime long haul holiday with business class flights.

I wore a pair of trousers similar to these www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-drape-jogger-trousers-413534.html, with a Breton top.
