I hate my clothes

Where do all you stylish, mid 40's, size 12-14 ladies buy you clothes?

Have our on some recently and totally hate all my clothes. Nothing fits and it all looks cheap or drab.

Am 5ft 5 and see some beautifully dressed women around that are a similar size to me but don't k now where they shop.

Not a huge budget sadly

Have you tried boohoo? Lots of different options for all sizes. Cheap too!

GreenTulips · 27/06/2019 19:06

Also try everything five ponds bit of a trawl!

Do you have boobs? Good legs?

The secret of dressing well is knowing what suits

small2018 · 27/06/2019 19:14

I'm the same size and height as you, aged 40, and wore this today.

Vest - Primark
Jacket - New Look
Skirt - Next (off eBay!)
Shoes - Primark

I hate my clothes
small2018 · 27/06/2019 19:14

What do you normally wear?

Ellapaella · 27/06/2019 19:51

You definitely don't need a huge budget. I shop all over the place and love a bit of Primark and high street stores.
What's your usual style? For inspiration look on Pinterest or I highly recommend the styled by Susie Facebook group - loads of stylish contemporary outfit ideas on a budget.

I adore clothes :)
Start by buying one gorgeous thing a month (plus cheap pieces to keep you going)... wear the lovely thing LOADS!
It will build up quickly!

TooMinty · 27/06/2019 21:20

Give us a hint on what sort of styles you like?

blackcat2345 · 27/06/2019 21:24

Hmm... am pretty classic/conservative in my tastes. Like White Company etc.
Trendy days are over.

IMO awful chunky legs/ankles. Arms not great.
Reasonable busy - I like me shoulders Grin

Seem to have a lot of skinny jeans but that's probably only because they are stretchy Confused

I've always thought that mango and mns were nice for a slightly more mature age range. I'm thirty and have recently started mns but keep passing mango and saying 'I must shop in there and stop dressing like a 15 year old' too xD

I quite like AllSaints although it's not cheap! Quite often find a few nice things in Urban Outfitters too. The Zalando app is good too because it shows you loads of brands in all price ranges.

GreenTulips · 27/06/2019 21:42

John Lewis has a good sale on - with a look for a few dresses

Put aside £20/30 a month and mix up the wardrobe

small2018 · 27/06/2019 21:50

I don't like my arms either, hence the jacket! 😊

SleepingIsOverrated · 27/06/2019 22:02

Sorry to hijack but @small2018 did you buy your shoes recently? I need themGrin

small2018 · 27/06/2019 22:36

Sorry @SleepingIsOverrated, they are from primark years ago! I don't usually buy cheap shoes but these have been great!

blackcat2345 · 28/06/2019 07:52

Hadn't thought about John Lewis. Seem to have lost all interest in clothes shopping as nothing looks right on me anymore Sad

candycane222 · 28/06/2019 08:03

Try going in a poshish shop and asking for some suggestions, then photo yourself in outfits that seem to work, to kind of 'get your eye in' to a different style. I find it incredibly hard to buy anything I haven't always bought, so I know exactly what you mean (do as I say not as I do! Blush Grin

small2018 · 28/06/2019 09:41

Can you post a pic of an outfit that you like?

Layoverlife · 28/06/2019 09:45

Try the 'Vinted' app I've picked up some brilliant bargains over the past few months Smile

Ninkaninus · 28/06/2019 09:49

Depending on budget, I buy at John Lewis, Toast, Whistles, Jigsaw, Jaeger, Reiss, White Company, Barbour, Boden, Joules, I’m sure there are more but I can’t think now.

I’ve pared down my wardrobe since I turned 40 and operate on a fairly strict capsule wardrobe. I’d rather have far fewer items of clothing but much better quality. I agree with previous poster - get rid of all the clothes you hate or that are worn out or no longer fit. Replace with 5 or 6 things straightaway if you can afford it, then add one or two per month.

justchecking1 · 28/06/2019 10:01

I am the same size and age as you. I live in stretchy maxi dresses and a denim jacket in the summer. Mostly phase eight, and Boden

Ninkaninus · 28/06/2019 10:03

Oh yes! Phase Eight, Oasis, Hush.

TheCatThatDanced · 28/06/2019 13:18

Boohoo no - cheap and nasty.

Top Shop have some gems - their angel sleeve tops are nice.

Have gone off H&M recently.

& Other Stories.

Jigsaw, Reiss, Brora and designer stuff (mostly if DH is buying).

babysnowman · 28/06/2019 13:29

Boden have a really good sale online at the moment!
