COS - do they not understand women have breasts

I have just looked at their site and every dress and top is high necked. Everything.. apart from one wrap around dress is buttoned up or right up to the neck.

I only really suit V neck or cowl neck due to having these things called boobs and I look dreadfully matronly with things buttoned up to my neck.

It is quite astonishing as some of their pieces look like they could be nice if they were V or even scooped at the front.

yy heathen. Wrap dresses and tops are not for small boobs! I avoid shops that cater for boobs, and hips Hmm.

I'm short and skinny and everything in there makes me look like I am a three year old dressing up in my mum's clothes.

Sad as I like their stuff but it's just massive on me.

RedSheep73 · 28/06/2019 08:02

It seems to me that everything in the shops is high necked at the moment. I have the same issue and can't wait for scooped or v necks to come back in. I can't bear anything touching my throat.

VirginiaWolfHall · 28/06/2019 08:05

I’m a tall straight up and down willowy size 8 so their clothes look good on me. And I’m mid forties. It’s great to have a retailer that does cater for us slim older women that no longer want to shop in Oasis or Topshop! Arket is similarly good, as is Me & Em. Some of us do fit the demographic!

VirginiaWolfHall · 28/06/2019 08:06

It’s funny because I have started to avoid scoop and deep v necks because my chest has become flatter and bonier in recent years therefore I can’t have enough high necks!

Almahart · 28/06/2019 08:31

I’m a booby size 14 apple shape and have loads of great clothes from Cos. You have to try them on.

IhaveALooBrush · 28/06/2019 09:22

heathen and meglethesecond

I'm busty and look shite in wrap dresses, it's a myth. All they do is gape and roll down i have to wear a vest top underneath and that rolls up so I look all lumpy in the middle. Plus the wraps are never even so I end up with one boob that's covered more than the other and the join makes them look lopsided.

IhaveALooBrush · 28/06/2019 09:36

I've had a trawl through the cos sale.
There's actually a lot I really like if I had the money I'd give a go.
I think would depend how the fabric is cut and any dart placements. Plus in the drapery tops it would depend where the drapes fall.
I like the tapered and wide leg trousers.
I'm a top heavy hourglass and like bottoms to balance me out. I hate skinny trousers.

Floisme · 28/06/2019 09:37

I have just looked at their site
That's your mistake, op. I made it too and took the piss out of them for years. I was wrong. Now I'm like too and make a trip to a real store a couple of times a year. As far as I'm concerned they blow away everyone else on the high street at the moment.

I'm slim but with post menopausal boobs - my recent bra was 28G.

I will join you though in grumbling about the long sleeved Ts which were all too high necked for me - a real shame because they looked and felt like good quality and were very reasonably priced.

Plenty of others too that aren't super low necked but aren't what I would call high necked.. just a normal round neckline

Their clothes are massive so not sure how they can be appealing to straight up and down?
I think the beauty of their clothes is that it doesn't really matter what shape your body is - the point isn't to showcase your figure, the point is to wear a nice big swathe of fabric that drapes in all the right places as it's nice fabric that's well cut.

toottootchuggachugga · 28/06/2019 10:20

And I actually disagree that all their stuff is really voluminous. They do great skim-fitting t shirts, slim leg jeans, and I have some jodhpur-ish trousers from them that make me feel like a highwayman.

drspouse · 28/06/2019 10:36

@IhaveALooBrush most high street wrap dresses aren't cut for busts over a certain size. You may like Pepperberry dresses though.

VirginiaWolfHall · 28/06/2019 10:53

Agree with @Floisme... Cos blows all other high street shops out of the water. Quality, store experience and customer service are second to none. I hope they stay.

stucknoue · 28/06/2019 10:56

Bravissimo is the only shop that makes things that fit me consistently. Everywhere else it's hit or miss

CollaterlyS1sters · 28/06/2019 11:04

Jesus! I've never looked at their stuff before, ever. Just clicked on some of the links in the post above, and my god those are some of the ugliest clothes I've ever seen in my life.

Just shapeless, plain, awful, boring, ugly, horrible dresses. I'm genuinely quite shocked. I somehow thought they would be a bit like Monsoon - floaty and hippyish.

I'm 5'8, size 8, lean, not much in the way of boobs, so allegedly they should suit me, but I wouldn't be seen dead in any of them!

LilyRose88 · 28/06/2019 11:26

I have big boobs and am 5'7 and rarely find anything in Cos that suits me. I do try things on but their loose styled dresses just don't work on me. I have some cropped trousers from there that I like but their dresses are too shapeless for me. I also struggle with Toast as their clothes do nothing for me. It is a shame as both Toast and Cos clothes are really well made and I would love to shop there.

Loubilou09 · 28/06/2019 11:26

Right! Okay I am convinced...I will go and try on all of those dresses tomorrow and see if I can be turned :) :) thanks for your help!

OP posts:
CmdrCressidaDuck · 28/06/2019 11:35

I'm a short, hourglassy 8 in my mid 30s and I love Cos. You have to shop in-store - the clothes look utterly hideous on the website but come to life on the body. It's a distinct aesthetic - loose, structural, minimalist, Japanese-style. I agree that it bridges ages from the fashion-forward young to the considerably older.

TheOrigRightsofwomen · 28/06/2019 12:24

Just had a look. I am very tall and slim - and think many of their clothes would look dreadful on me; ill-fitting, baggy and like I'm trying to hide my body. I am 48.

Oh hang on, that was the sale, so I presume no one else like those bits either. Hmmm...nope, still think some of them look like hospital scrubs!

TheOrigRightsofwomen · 28/06/2019 12:25

I mean really?

Elllllle · 28/06/2019 12:42

Cos threads can always be roughly divided into those who have been into store and found absolute gems and those who look at the website and just don't get it. If you love Phase 8, you are most likely not going to like Cos. Personally, I love browsing through my local Cos store. I'm an hourglass and avoid most of the shift dresses but sometimes experimenting with shape and styles that you don't think will suit is a great way of updating your look. The fabrics are gorgeous and when you do find something that drapes or fits just right, it's incredible. If you want edgy with good fabrics, it's a really good place to start.

TheCatThatDanced · 28/06/2019 13:15

I don't really like COS dresses (leave to stick thin SIL and her SIL) but I do like their t shirts sometimes and got a nice wool stretch skirt just after Christmas. Too warm for it now of course.

Zinnia · 28/06/2019 18:22

I'm 5' 9", size 12-14 hourglass/pear and have tons of Cos. The trousers (especially the wide leg ones) are amazing. T-shirts, shirts, knitwear, jackets, coats... special soft spot for the jumpsuits (am always complimented on them). Even have a couple of dresses Grin(just got a black jersey midi in the sale that will last for years).

Their stuff doesn't date because it's not slavishly on trend. As may be obvious, I'm a bit of a devotee!
