Have people seen the news that Harry and Meghan will not be revealing who Archie’s godparents are? I think they’re struggling to find the right balance between public and private. They’re not close to the throne but they’re still high very profile and use public money.

Thedarklady · 03/07/2019 20:24

They said they 'look forward to sharing some images taken on the day', but the 'godparents, in keeping with their wishes, will remain private'. What's the big deal?

Thedarklady · 03/07/2019 20:29

They seem like a nice family, Kate is very lucky.

They're not entirely self made though - MM is from a wealthy family and received a large inheritance. The family business has also received financial help from the rather dubious uncle. William also helped them purchase their larger house. Also, being a private business, the financial records have never been released. It is said to possibly to be struggling at the moment. They have let go of staff recently.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/07/2019 20:41

I'm not too fussed about who the godparents are, it seems the Sussexes are keeping their identities quiet in line with their wishes. Fair dos, they may not be in the public eye.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/07/2019 20:42

I wish Kate would have another baby, she's much more generous with her baby pics! Grin

Laiste · 03/07/2019 20:44

H&M would do better to drop the word 'private' from their announcements. It just fuels annoyance. If you don't want to reveal something just don't reveal it, don't announce you're not going to reveal it!

The school kid who used to suddenly announce:
''i'm not telling you ...

  • where i got this
  • what i did yesterday
  • what i saw this morning ....
  • so there!''

Everyone's just 'oh don't then'! HmmHmm
Grin

AnneEyhtMeyer · 03/07/2019 20:50

I don't care a jot who the godparents are but I think the "we're not going to tell you" performance is laughable. They are trying to make themselves sound important. It is so immature. There is no need for them to say anything at all.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/07/2019 20:55

I agree with you @Laiste. Tbh, that pretty much sums up how I feel about them. I wish them well as a family but they are adding nothing to the Institution of the monarchy, their interests are elsewhere and I think they should just go and pursue them. They have enough celebrity appeal in the US to do this without needing to be part of the Royal Family in any official capacity.

MrsGrindah · 03/07/2019 20:56

I’m starting to go right off H&M to be honest with this silly behaviour. There’s a huge difference between not wanting intrusion and recognising that you are a publicly financed figure. They need to get over themselves.
However..since this is a fashion thread..Carole looks fab I think. I also think Kate always gets it just right at Wimbledon.Always looks cool and fresh. Looking forward to seeing her again this tournament

ajandjjmum · 03/07/2019 20:56

It's pretty childish - 'we're not telling', which will inevitably stir up more interest. I just find it irritating. But there we go - their choice!

Laiste · 03/07/2019 20:58

Carole does look fab and i'd like to know where those pink sandals are from.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/07/2019 21:08

I can't find any clues to Carole's sandals, sadly.

She does look fab but my goodness she loves a tan!

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/07/2019 21:14

Maybe their point is that although they're public figures, Archie isn't. Hence the privacy. They will carry out royal duties but he won't, so they want to shield him from the public eye. I suppose it's like Anne and her children. The Cambridge kids are different as they'll be public figures.

How do Harry and Meghan add nothing to the monarchy?
They're pulling in crowds, they had a successful tour, Harry has two hugely successful charity ventures that he set up, Meghan's work with the kitchen and cookbook was very successful, Meghan is good at speeches.

They're limited in what they can do as Harry is lower down in line to the throne so it wouldn't look good if they were doing more than HM, Charles, William and Catherine.

Based on the media barrage and multiple awful comments made against their family I can see why Harry and Meghan are being protective. PW is in a different position as he is the heir and his children are princes and a princess.

Maybe we'll get a full photo of the little one with the christening.

miri1985 · 03/07/2019 21:21

If its a small christening of 25 guests like they say then surely everyone attending will be papped driving by or getting out of cars etc. and who the godparents are will be easily speculated or someone will blab the names anyway

To me (as an observer) the coverage of the Cambridge childrens christening didn't feel intrusive, the press photos before and after and then the official photo and the Godparents names.

If they are this insistent about a private life for Archie I wonder will they forego security etc for him like Princess Anne did for her children?

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/07/2019 21:22

I didn't say they weren't hard working and productive, but they could do all that as private citizens. I don't think Harry enjoys being "Royal". I think Meghan thought she would and is finding it harder than expected.

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/07/2019 21:24

Did Anne forego security for her kids? Considering some EDL type threatened to kill Harry, I'm guessing they'll hold onto their security a bit longer.

Nah, my money’s on an ear this time. I’ll have nearly completed my Archie jigsaw puzzle then.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/07/2019 21:26

It will definitely be black and white.

escapade1234 · 03/07/2019 21:28

I see Carole’s been freshly creosoted for Wimbledon. She looks good but I think a slightly lower hem would be more elegant.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 03/07/2019 21:31

I don't think it would genuinely be/ safe for Archie to have no security.
However I think H&M's pr advisor is shit.
She may be great at raising their profile, but she is trashing their reputation with her mixed messages.
She's way too visible as well. Kate's private secretary is at loads of engagements with her but is incredibly discreet.

MotherofPearl · 03/07/2019 21:52

Did Anne forego security for her kids?
I don't know if she forgoed it or it just wasn't given, it was talked about a lot when the York Princesses were stripped of theirs a few years ago that the Philips had done fine without it

DM is reporting that for £30 you can find out who anyone baptised in the COEs godparents are.

"Under the Parochial Registers and Records Measure 1978, all Church of England baptisms are a matter of public record.

Details of both public and private baptisms are kept in a large register for each Anglican parish.

Anyone willing to pay the required fee can look up the details of any baptism in any given Church of England parish.

For 2019 the set fee is £30.

The details record for each baptism are as follows:

Date of birth

Date of baptism

Christian name and surname

Mother and father's christian name and surname

Address

Mother and father's occupations

Godparents

Officiating minister

Source: Legislation.gov.uk "

It looks like its coming out whether they like it or not but I agree shit PR, releasing the godparents names (especially as its public record) would have been some insight, that along with an official photo would have been more than enough IMHO

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/07/2019 22:00

The Middleton ladies do love their tans. 2011/12 Kate looked like she'd been tangoed!
