I thought Charlotte's christening was a bit ridiculous with Kate walking up the road wheeling the vintage pram over cobblestones but George’s and Louis' were more low-key.

I watched a long ago recorded documentary on Meghan - " How to be a Royal" - it was made pre their wedding and Archie's birth. It was interesting in light of recent discussions about "scarfgate" and speculation on a rift between W and H to watch W's reaction when Meghan was speaking when the four were filmed during their mental health initiative.
Perhaps I read too much into it ? Anyone else watch it.

Charlene was in Greece at the christening of her godson.
Apologies I can't do links.

On a separate note, I can't stand Penny Junor. She was always so pro Charles and Camilla. Diana could do nothing right as far as she was concerned.
As a journalist / Royal commentator she was / is totally biased. I prefer a more neutral approach in official Royal commentating.

queenofarles · 30/06/2019 09:41

I know I’m a bit late, but can I just say something that a lot of you will disagree on, but after seeing yesterday’s baseball event I will just go on and say it. Meghan is picking what suits her and not thinking what is required of her as a member of the RF. they announced she was not meeting Trump . I know he is vile , but he is the President and If the Queen managed to smile and chat with him, Meg could have atleast met him briefly and went home . She didn’t miss Trooping the Colour though. You can’t keep saying you are on maternity leave and skip other important events . Just because you don’t like it.

mumdom · 30/06/2019 09:55

Perhaps Meghan was waiting for breastfeeding to be established and lochia to stop queenofarles. I was working for an American firm at the time DD was born and that was my timeframe as I am a contractor.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 30/06/2019 10:06

@PinkSun9 the KP road is the private road inside KP grounds which all of the occupants and staff use.

Agree @queenofarles it seems to be very much picking and choosing the fun bits.

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/06/2019 10:16

Not too fussed about Trump, it was a state visit and she was on maternity leave. I can't recall Kate attending state occasions while on mat leave either. The Trooping is different as it seems to be something that everyone attends regardless.

Anyway if she had met Trump she'd be called a hypocrite for going against what she said earlier so she can't win! The royal family seemed to do the bare minimum for his visit anyway (and this isn't a criticism) so I don't think they're as neutral as they claim to be.

Trooping of the colour seems like a family event the Peter and Autumn, Beatrice and Eugenie everyone attends. The state visit was different only 'working' royals were out. As I see it Meghan wasn't working at the time so she didn't have to go. Let's not forget on his last visit all of the family except the queen were to busy to see trump!

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/06/2019 10:28

Yes that was very convenient wasn't it @itswinetime? But I think the excuse then was that it wasn't a state visit.

OP posts:
UrsulaPandress · 30/06/2019 10:39

Isn’t Trooping the Colour classed as a family birthday gathering?

The Baseball is very American but hey, she’s American. And I presume Harry was going and she decided to tag along.

queenofarles · 30/06/2019 10:41

The way I see it, she is only does what works for her.🤷🏼‍♀️

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/06/2019 10:45

Well if that involves refusing to meet an alleged sex criminal then that's fine by me!

OP posts:
Clankboing · 30/06/2019 10:48

I think it would be better if the press understood Archie as if he were equivalent to Zara, as Spudlet refers to. We know that the press twists everything. I can just imagine them asking H&M's office how Archie's christening will be publicised. "Their" reply is given, then the press say that H&M have announced this or demanded this. I don't trust anything that I read. Equally the positive spins - I don't trust them either.

itswinetime · 30/06/2019 10:51

If Charles the future King can opted out of things over terminology, a visit from a world leader not a state visit! I'm giving the woman who just gave birth 4 weeks ago and is married to the 6th in line an out!

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/06/2019 10:54

Yes, isn't it the monarch who's supposed to be politically neutral? And H&M are, as people are fond of pointing out, increasingly minor members of the royal family.

Apparently they've spent £5500 on a copper bath for Frogmore.....having seen pics I don't blame them, I want one too!! Grin

didn’t have any problems working with one,

ElspethFlashman · 30/06/2019 11:14

She couldn't meet Trump after slating him publicly before. No way. It would have completely overshadowed his visit. Even Harry having a face like thunder skulking at the back of the room looked bad. Either plaster a smile on like Charles has to, or dont go at all.

So I'm relieved she didn't attend tbh. Nobody needed a surly Meghan at it.

I also don't mind her doing American things. If I married into the RF (Irish so even less suitable Hmm) you're damn right one of my first gigs would be a London GAA club. You do what you can for your own.

AppleKatie · 30/06/2019 11:26

Trooping is very much a duty not fun occasion and they all go come hell or highwater.

A state visit 4 weeks after giving birth would be a more unreasonable expectation I think.

And now going to the baseball? Supporting something she probably likes and is very important to her husband (invictus) seems entirely appropriate if she’s up to it and Archie can be left.

I just can’t get worked up about this stuff.

Notmyrealname855 · 30/06/2019 11:43

Honestly, all this briefing and cloak and dagger stuff is fascinating but in a horrible way... it’s like the family politics with your Great Aunty Val who Is Not Speaking to Uncle Terrence after what he said about Our Sharron played out in the national press... with sparkly tiaras and designer shoes

Hahaha so true!

The one thing H&M need to do, is CLEARLY COMMUNICATE in one statement what they’re doing with Archie. Is his childhood private (absolutely fine) - if so, what does that mean? We’ve had one set of expectations from the Cambridge’s - they’ve very consistently been public with their kids (but controlled when we get to see them). So be clear what the plan is with Archie. And if he’s to be a private citizen, it’s confusing to then even reference him in your outings etc as you make him public again. Did Anne do the same with Peter and Zara? What’s the precedence here?

I do get annoyed when any of them spend big money on “renovations” (ripping out new kitchens, planting orangeries whatever the hell those are?!), because the royals get public money for this. Like MPs. And like MPs (good MPs) it should be the John Lewis test. Not the “greatest spending we can” test. Why should public money be spent on luxuries? We didn’t tolerate it with others in public office and not sure why we do with the royals (any of the royals!!!). Annoys me to think taxpayers on the lowest earnings, their money has gone over their whole lifetime - over our lifetimes - to a bloody copper bath and new driveway!! Ugh!!!

Notmyrealname855 · 30/06/2019 11:48

Also... I thought all the christenings were private?

Also also... like meghans look at the baseball. She looked relaxed and casual enough for the occasion but still sleek and smart Star like her in flats! She’s definitely closer to 5’5 but looks lovely without the heels, she’s somehow even more bonny without the heels (though admittedly love her shoe collection)

Harry looks scruffy but think it’s because his hair is tricky to style Blush

UrsulaPandress · 30/06/2019 11:52

I read that the basic essential renovations were met by the State and anything above and beyond was paid for by the couple.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 30/06/2019 11:55

The palace hasn't announced it @Myimaginarycathasfleas, it's "a source" who's gone to the media and I'm always a bit dubious about these anonymous sources.

Fair enough, Queen. I'm happy to stand corrected. I think it's the culmination of a lot of these reported stories that has flipped me from being a Meghan supporter to sceptic. That and my natural aversion to performer types.

I'd be happy to see some nice pics after the event, if they are choosing to keep themselves to themselves that's fine by me.

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/06/2019 12:02

Who's the sex criminal Meghan worked with @queenofarles?

OP posts:
Myimaginarycathasfleas · 30/06/2019 12:02

On the baseball issue, I was talking to a British expat (not in the UK) who was just getting into baseball on Sky Sports. Sports fans will watch anything that gets the adrenalin going. I think it will be huge if Sky are promoting it.

Notmyrealname855 · 30/06/2019 12:15

a source is invariably someone’s PR...
