Will red accessories with this dress be too much?

I’ve bought this dress for a wedding next month, I love the print but I’m aware it’s pretty loud so I’m not sure what to wear with it. Was thinking nude shoes and clutch, but I don’t really like that colour on me and I don’t think the classic nude court shoe goes with the vintage style of the dress? ( could be wrong there! ) I have quite short legs too so from that point of view I suppose nude and no straps would be better, but not so easy to dance in.
I’ve found some lovely red t bar type sandals that also look comfy, but I’m worried if I accessorise with red ( or indeed any of the other hundred shades in the dress! ) I might look a bit garish?!
I was going to get a vintage style floral hair clip thing too, as I always feel you need something on your head for a wedding, but would that also be too much?
Any ideas to stop me making a fashion faux pas greatly appreciated ( unless it’s “wear a different dress” Grin ) as I don’t get out much these days and want to look nice! Thanks.

Shoes woth dress will look fantastic. Looks like you're someone who really knows how to put an outfit together.
Wouldn't do matching bag nowadays.maybe a small metallic one so it doesn't overpower . Red nails will be fine of you're feeling that vibe. The dress is lovely.

Eustasiavye · 25/06/2019 19:28

Those shoes Will be fine with the dress.
A red bag would go or a neutral colour bag.
I wouldn't do red nails if you have red shoes and red bag, if go more neutral such as light grey or beige.

GlubGlubGlub · 25/06/2019 19:32

What a gorgeous dress. Do you mind me asking where it’s from? I think the red shoes will be perfect with it!

NeverPutAWetFootInABirkenstock · 25/06/2019 19:37

I would do red or green shoes and probably a silver bag. Neutral finger nails and dark burgundy toe nails.

Justathinslice · 25/06/2019 19:41

Def red ( if the shade matches)

Nanna50 · 25/06/2019 20:24

Red shoes that will stay on but won’t make your ankle look short

Or green if you want a more muted colour

Red would be fine but yellow would be better. Blue would be good too. Green or white would be a big no no. Nude would be perfectly acceptable albeit a bit boring. If I were wearing that dress I would opt for yellow sued strappy block heels. It gives a good pop of colour, looks coordinated but not matchy and has the benefit of not being too harsh/drawing too much attention the way red would.

Red shoes or bag, but not both.

Cydonia · 25/06/2019 20:41

Thanks so much for all the lovely helpful replies! The dress is, as someone guessed, from Lady Vintage London. It’s an “Elsie” and comes in lots of other lovely prints too. Took me AGES to find something to suit both my body shape and general style. On closer inspection there are two shades of red and an orange in there, so think the shoes will go. I do like the other red ones from Joe Browns too though, think I’ll try on some styles I have already ( obviously still need new ones though ) and see what looks best. Wouldn’t have thought about red lipstick, that might be an idea then I don’t have to faff too much with eyeshadow ( not great at make up! ) Also liking the metallic ideas too.
Lastly ... definite no to something on my head?! I’m thinking that would be too much?

And this colour bag and nude/clear polish nails

The truck to accessorising bright prints is to choose the colours that you see least in the print.

Ah Boggles I had thought of yellow, but I’m quite pale, I’m not sure if it suits me.

Same with those mint green shoes Nanna, they are lovely but I don’t really do pastels!

What about these?

Cydonia · 25/06/2019 21:10

Ooh now that’s something different, I like those. Perhaps not quite right for a wedding though? I didn’t know Lindy Bop did shoes, will have a look on there.

There’s a pair of amazing green retro styles shoes called on retro revival but they’re 200 odd quid. I’ve been eyeing them up for ages but have no where to wear them to sob

BikeRunSki · 25/06/2019 21:25

Shoes and bag don’t need to match unless you are Bridget Jones’s mother.

Cydonia · 25/06/2019 21:38

They are lovely, I have the occasion but not the cash!
Bikerunski that is what I’m worried about...

What about bronze colours.

Even just nails with the red shoes

Cydonia · 25/06/2019 23:21

Good idea, I have a lovely bronzey colour nail varnish. I have just tried a few different styles/colours of shoes with the dress - red, metallic and kind of nude all look nice. I think the t-bar will be ok if it’s not too high up on the foot. Amazing the difference a shoe makes to how your legs look, so much slimmer and longer with the sky high no strap shoes but they’re just not practical!

Buyitinbamboo · 26/06/2019 13:03

Love the shoes but I wouldn't go for flowery hair piece, simple blow dry or waves will be lovely

Cydonia · 26/06/2019 14:23

Oh good, I have actually booked to have my hair done so it should look nice! I don’t think any of my friends are wearing fascinators or anything.

Yes to the dress and red shoes! The green bag is gorgeous. Red lips & nails, and natural hair! Lovely!

Nicolastuffedone · 26/06/2019 15:38

Mmm.....not sure if you haven’t got a ‘lot of leg’ left! That’s quite a lot of shoe to be near your dress.....
