Anyone had teeth removed for braces?

So I've had an appointment with orthodontist and I qualify for nhs braces which is great as it saves me so much but they will need to be the metal kind.
But before they are fitted I need to get 4 teeth removed. Two from top and two from bottom and they are going to be noticeable. Like the 3rd tooth back from centre if you know what I mean.
He said it's noticeable until the brace goes on and then it sort of disguises it but has anyone had this done? Super anxious and feel I would have to lock myself away until I actually get the brace on and even then will feel self conscious! Any advice or experiences would be great to hear!

Ah ok, thanks. I had no idea a dentist could remove teeth! I have had teeth removed myself - all 4 wisdom teeth- but that was under GA at the hospital which is why I thought that might be the case for her too.

I'm going to have one right in the front removed as it's mis shaped. I'm not looking forward to it. I'm having braces fitted in July and I'm so excited. It's going to be ceramic at the front, elastic bands and top and bottom train tracks. Then an invisiline to wear at night. I have two missing front teeth, so I am going to have my canines filed, and then squared off with composite by my dentist. I wasn't allowed braces as a child.

I had 5 removed as a child and DD1 had had 4, she’s been wearing braces for 2 years and the results are amazing.

Actually I had ten baby teeth out, plus the four adult pre-molars. I have really big teeth. Mine were all done at the usual dentist, in two tranches (10, then four), although I was under an orthodontist separately.

I had 3 premolars removed before braces when I was in my teens. I don't remember it being really visible but I was a bit self conscious about smiling anyway as my canines were so wonky. I have nice straight teeth now though, and 25 years later they haven't moved back at all.

I had 4 removed at 13. I can’t remember it being noticeable, but at the time most people I knew had braces and some people had head gear, so it might just have been that a few missing back teeth wasn’t a big deal.
